A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

[quote=Brizzle Post]Yoga nearly met her demise after making plans to meet up with a friend to go partying and decided to do the trip alone. She recalls feeling “euphoric” and lost track of where she was going – and her speed.
While on an empty road, with nobody else around, she lost attention and suddenly, a feeling of dread washed over her. She struggled to breathe and before she knew it, her car flew off the road.
And:

She should report it via #FillThatVoidBetweenWorlds

If I have this right, people
If I have this right, people in Medway are rebelling against maintenance to their own gas supply. We’re at the fringes of the road network with not many options for a diversion. Gone are the days when drivers could trusted to not abuse or even injure workers so it will be interesting to see how this is resolved.
Controversial SGN roadworks through Town Road, Cliffe Woods revoked after backlash from residents
I’ve also seen SoMe backlash against the hospepipe ban – OK so water privatisation has put us in a position where there are leaks, waters losses etc but shouting your non compliance is only going to hasten the day when you turn on your taps and nothing comes out. Then where will you be?

At a guess, nos 57-71 Unity Way will have legitimate vehicular use of the gated off area, but houses in Fox Gardens and Maple Ave do not.

Interesting history – we get
Interesting history – we get to the 1970s and find that was a high water mark of smashing stuff to make way to the car in NL even in NL. At that point they were doing exactly the same kind of urban vandalism e.g. the UK was, and gearing up for even more. (In fact, the Dutch are still pretty car-centric – but they’re just not actively accelerating in that direction. Indeed they’ve recognised that in urban areas they might even want to reverse the trend).
NotJustBikes also has an interesting one comparing two similar-sized Canadian and Dutch cities – in fact 100 years back they looked the same and seemed to be on the same urban trajectory. Not now…

David9694 wrote:They paved ParadiseWhen I first moved to Bristol in the early nineties there was an enormous car park called (IIRC) Canons Marsh. It was a huge derelict plot, with a derelict industrial building that you could park in if you wanted to be under cover.
It’s now an underground car park and on top of it are an aquarium and a casino and a science activity centre and (lots of) flats and a ‘public’ square.
I presume Houston had a lot of derelict/empty land?

That is a question, indeed.
That is a question, perhaps. But likely to be swiftly countered a) by accusations of ableism / prejudice (as you say “why ever not?”) and b) because we’ve so thoroughly built in motornormativity even getting standard medical assistance can come with the assumption of driving. Or at least “drive, or potentially spend so much time waiting for transport / collection that never comes / getting to and from appointments / not being able to get to appointments at the times you can get them … that you will be more ‘disabled’ than by any condition you have (e.g. workplace may not work around your absences)”
I’m still baffled by the “I actually have a driveway I could use, but I was leaving that for local kids to play on”. The first part is standard, but the reason given for not parking there seems curious!

You have to ask whether the
You have to ask whether the good gentleman ought really to be driving at all, given his condition.
Then again, of course if he’s been cleared by his doc, why not? Just wish more drivers got proper medical sanction to drive, given the current state of mindless motoring on the blacktop. -
