A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Pub blocks its car park with cones due to ‘parents who won’t listen’ taking up all the spaces picking up children
Workers from the pub are currently having to sit and monitor the car park each day
Louis claimed that the business was losing trade due to non-customers occupying the car park. He says: “We are losing trade. Potential customers go elsewhere if they see that the car park is full, workmen that visit the pub that finish around 3 o’clock have nowhere to park, and if we have events we need the spaces for the guests.”
After a family called to say that they were unable to visit the pub due to the busy car park, Louis decided he needed to take action and block off the car park every afternoon. Workers sit by the cones and let genuine customers park.
(knocking off by 3 pm – what am I missing??)

Engineer says he has been forced to reduce how far he will travel for work due to new 20mph speed limit
All-service engineer Gary Keating from Ammanford said he doesn’t think he will get his normal number of jobs done in a day after the new legislation is introduced because it will take him longer to get to customers
Asked what he thought about the new legislation in general, he said: “I don’t agree with the blanket [change]. I agree [the 20mph speed limit] needs to be around schools, and it needs to be around maybe playgrounds or estates where kids do run around and there are a lot of pedestrians or even down in the high streets where the shops are.
“But to put the main roads, which is what a lot of these are, down to 20 because it’s a built up area is probably not the best move to make… I just think it’s going to cause major problems, not only with people like me, but what about with haulage companies? They’re only allowed to do so many hours on the road before they have to stop – they’re obviously not going to get as far, are they?”

We have a mobile speed van
We have a mobile speed van which sometimes hangs around here:
https://goo.gl/maps/xUCR7dehcAgRt5WDA
To catch the countless number of drivers going over 30mph. However, some anti social driver or other will flash the ongoing traffic to warn them of the camera ahead. While it does slow people down for just that one trip, it does not do what the traffic camera should do, fine them in order for them to learn to permanently
chnage their ways.Anyone who flashes another drivers (careful now) to warn them of a speed camera should be fined too.

Furious Yorkshire workman
Furious Yorkshire workman blocks police camera with tipper truck – and warned he could lose his own van
West Yorkshire Police were carrying out enforcement work when the 67-year-old blocked their view on purpose
The tipper truck driver was given a conditional caution with conditions prohibiting him from parking within 20 metres of any mobile speed enforcement vehicle or doing anything to willingly obstruct their view, and to remove all social media posts relating to him committing this or other offences. He was also issued with a Section 59 Notice under the Police Reform Act which means a repeat of this behaviour may result in the seizure of his vehicle.
(not sure why he’s furious)

If this topic is interesting I can recommend a book of Pascal Boyer’s (at least – the first half which cleverly ties together lots of fascinating nuggets of anthropology, philosophy and cognitive science; it gets a bit theory-heavy latterly).

Nothing is sacred?I always find it weird when people who claim to be church-(chapel-)going Christians complain about their loved ones being disturbed and unable to sleep in their graves… I didn’t think Christian theology teaches that the dead are just down there sleeping and grumbling.
That being said, I’m in no way defending building an access road and a car park on top of a graveyard.
(I suspect some of this comes down to the new Christian owners not thinking that the old Christian owners were ‘proper’ Christians, so it doesn’t matter what they do to the heathens…).

Have you found the tariff for
Have you found the tariff for this location somewhere, Essex?
This parking company has made quite a name for itself:
Great that our motorist friendly GOVErnment is taking an interest in the doings of the private parking industry (articles linked in the Sheffield widow story) – that would be the same industry that the DVLC are all too willing to hand over information to.
I can recall issues with the clampers in the mid 1990s clamping cars parked in the town centre delivery bays (only for a minute, no doubt to drop stuff off to a charity shop) – so a long-running issue.
I’d still say that drivers have brought this stuff on themselves. I guess the affront is that this is an environment where rules is rules – unlike the wider state system, which bends over backwards to go easy on them.

Worksop landlord car park
Worksop landlord car park access is ‘constantly’ blocked by parked cars
A Worksop landlord cannot access his own car park due to cars blocking the only way in.

Its £4 for 12 hours, not all
Its £4 for 12 hours, not all day. There is a higher charge for all day (in other words, 24 hour) parking.
Hence my point.
