A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Ah – is that a thing?  That explains a lot – there are some crossings I use as a pedestrian where I have to keep pressing or else it just cancels out.  Maybe I should use headphones and dance more…? yes

I’ve friends who have been doing this for years. Not that new a hack. I’ve also shouted on some youngsters to do the same for me though I suppose I could have walked to the lights myself but that means trying to get back on the bike and then try and join live traffic once they turn green.

And of course they are all “ULEZ fines”. One fleeting mention that he is in fact facing three separate fines, presumably only one of which is the ULEZ. (Would hazard a guess that one of the others is Congestion Charge, and the third no idea. LTN/bus lane infringement?)

And zero mention of the fact that that given he admits to having seen the signs and being aware he was entering the ULEZ, he could have simply paid the charge (£12.50) within three days of his journey, rather than ignoring it until getting hit with a fine.

    Does anyone else remember one

Does anyone else remember one of the ‘classic’ threads on road.cc about pressing pedestrian crossing buttons if you’re not actually going to cross the road?

    Anyhoo – apparently it’s fine if you’re a drivist:

    https://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/23900285/cheeky-trick-pull-out-junctions/

A DRIVER has revealed a cheeky trick that allows him to pull out from busy junctions.

Al Bates shared a TikTok clip of her husband using the unique hack, much to the delight of viewers.

In the video, the couple have obviously been forced to wait at a junction as traffic streams past along the main road.

However, Al’s husband leapt into action with an ingenious solution.

He can be seen hopping out of the car to push the pedestrian button at the traffic lights just up the road.

This normally indicates that people are waiting to cross the busy street, causing the lights to change.

This time, though, it simply works to Al and her husband’s advantage, by halting the flow of traffic which would otherwise have the right of way over them at the junction.

After the lights turn red, they then have a clear road to pull out into and drive off.

If he’d tried that on a cyclist, maybe careless driving.

That’s not fair.  He’s asking for “common sense”.  That’s his solution.  He doesn’t explain what that means in practice, but then if you call for “common sense” you don’t need to.
