A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Twiter was absolutely awash
Twiter was absolutely awash with people saying must have been an EV or a hybrid, they were absolutely exulting in it until the news came out that it was a diesel then they all went rather quiet apart from a few fighting a rather desperate rearguard action saying well it must have had an EV next to it that set it off…

It appeared to be a diesel Land Rover Discovery Sport. Interestingly there’s a recall on 37,000 vehicles for a fire risk (the second fuel leak recall here: https://www.check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk/recall-type/vehicle/make/LAND%20ROVER/model/DISCOVERY%20SPORT/year/2016/recalls)
I can imagine now the hysterical reporting in some sections of the media if this had been an e-bike, e-scooter or EV. As it is, the silence is deafening on the calls to ban diesel land rovers from multi-storey car parks.
That’s going to be one heck of an insurance claim. I guess the land rover driver whose car caused it will quickly hit their policy maximum!

Driver desperation in Watchet
Driver desperation in Watchet:
“Estimates for re-routing the coast road, which according to the authorities could be closed for years, have varied from £30 million to £60 million.”
“Apart from a few weekends and bank holidays, the town is incredibly quiet.
“Some days Swain Street is like a pedestrian road.”
Always remarkable how these sums a bandied about so freely, but £2m on a cycleway seems like an impossibility.

South West drivers hit with
South West drivers hit with fines even when ticket meter is broke
“One case for getting a PCN which will no doubt rankle many a car park user is …that you will be charged even if its machines are not working properly. A faulty machine does not automatically grant free parking. There is clear signage to this effect…”
“One policy that will probably anger many motorists is one that says that it’s up to you to have enough cash or the app or a credit card or smartphone that works as “appeals submitted on this basis will not be granted under any circumstances”.
Drivers and their problems – if you’ve managed to convinced yourself that parking is free if the meter isn’t working, then Alliance have a suprise in store for you.

Man faces 18 mile tip trip
Man faces 18 mile tip trip due to council red tapeThe headline could be “Man is going to waste money on fuel because he doesn’t want to pay to dispose of his rubble properly”
This isn’t quite a drivers and their problems, apart from the man has made it one by saying that the council is forcing him to waste fuel.

Er… is it potholes? Or the speed limit has incorrectly been set too low for the
driversroad?Could it be that we’ve made the streets too narrow to punish the hard-working driver (150 years ago or so), or distracted drivers and endangered children by trying to force people to walk (from one house to the next) to push some woke agenda?
