A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

She made up the bit about roadworks.
And she also would have to have used the bus lane to access the pedestrian area.

Her journey of 0.5 miles is a 10 min walk, 3 min cycle or 4 min drive! (Colchester Institute to Rawstorn Rd).

Her home wasn’t “inaccessible”, AFAICS, it just meant she might have had to wait while traffic (of which she was a part!) cleared.  God forbid she have to wait like everyone else…

Outrage over Exeter parking

Outrage over Exeter parking charges as some refuse to visit

“It’s as if they want the city to do badly”

Forbes Pryde said: “Exeter finally dragging itself into the 21st century. Still probably 20 years behind other bigger cities though but a start at least. Unfortunately, some dinosaurs just don’t understand that most people are fed up with being surrounded by pollution from cars while out walking, exercising or having lunch out.”

Drivers and their iffy comparisons: Spain – free parking everywhere, apparently; it’s cheaper in Ottery St Mary and free in Witney, Oxon (West Oxfordshire DC doesn’t charge), free on Sundays in Taunton.

Bristol parking wars: Greens gear up for fight with drivers over pavement ban on cars

There’s a great quote as to why cars have to be parked on the pavement “If cars are parked on the road it becomes inconveniently narrow,”. Yes, people must walk in the road as the pavement is blocked because it would otherwise be inconvenient for drivers!

At least when roads become inconveniently narrow, it tends to reduce the drivers’ speed. However, we do have an issue in Bristol with not very many garages and so drivers have come to expect that they are entitled to park their vehicles somewhere convenient for themselves and that they are owed a parking space.

I think the e-scooter/e-bike scheme should also be amended so that they have to use on-road parking rather than littering up the pavements.

If this wasn’t in the city
If this wasn’t in the city centre then I think he’d probably get away with it. There is a residents parking permit scheme on the roads around there but his address isn’t in the zone that qualifies for a permit. He’s really got two choices, which are to buy a smaller car or find somewhere else to park it. You can park for free about 15 minutes walk away.

Southampton man fined for parking in marked bay outside his flat

Great to see Southampton City Council taking action against pavement parkers and believing that they can. The picture is the 2014 Google Street view, clearly a long-standing problem. But, of all the places, this one is relatively spacious for peds, it’s a stub of roadway left after some junction re-alignment.  Unusually too, the driver doesn’t seem to be winning hearts and minds in the comments.

I know that I’m not American but I think that I’m a lot more than 30% heavier than I was 40 years ago, probably more than 300% heavier

My weight is up at least 400% since I moved from the UK to the US at age 8. Must be from eating. Well, and breathing and drinking.
