A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

    An article about the effects

An article about the effects of  sprawl and how driving can’t upscale itself is as good as anything to get Monday started.  Mrs Northern here can’t quite decide if the village of Wateringbury has no local facilities to offer the occupants or if there are loads nearby.

It’s true that the nearby train line doesn’t serve London, but the “no evening services” is a plain lie.  I’m guessing the three hour traffic queues are also a bit of a lie. (Regular bus services, I might add, to Mainston and Tunbridge Wells.) I did wonder if Mrs N was an anti car campaigner “… we are in a highly polluted area. The Wateringbury crossroads is one of the most polluted in Kent”, but it turns out the horses are evicted when the village needs extra parking for events.

Someone, quite possibly a villager, must own/have owned the land – a lot of what will happen here is down to their decisions – funny how they barely get mentioned.

And always with the ambulances, eh? “remember, the A26 is a vital through route for emergency ambulances travelling to Pembury Hospital.” (20 miles away at Tunbridge Wells – or you might want to try Maidstone, 13 miles away.

    To all sociable motorists,
To all sociable motorists, over Christmas:
Don’t forget to include a nominated pregnant person in your party, to accompany you on your drive home if you get bladdered.
Never drive without a mitigating circumstance.

A friend of mine saw a cyclist run a red light 2 years ago (which I regularly re-tell as “cyclists are always running red lights”)

Bad driver racks up 50 points on licence in 16 days as speed camera set up
And another six points have just been added

David Ellis, mitigating, said that Preston’s poor driving record was the result of his relationship with drinking, adding that he has since turned his life around.

He said: “This offence was committed towards the end of his disqualification. He was enjoying an evening with friends. One of the group was a pregnant female, who began feeling unwell. He drove her home in a misguided attempt to be gallant. He now accepts that was foolish.

Prosecutor Charlotte Morgan told North Staffordshire Justice Centre that Preston had a staggering 50 points on his licence (“Staggering” being the operative word)

“Yes, it’s a stunning car — but no vehicle is above the law. Road tax applies to every vehicle on the road, and this one was no exception. Keeping our roads fair and lawful”
Should have kept and driven it in Lancashire! BF64 TGE will soon achieve 4 years without VED. I first reported it to DVLA over 3 years ago. I know exactly where he lives in Garstang, but Lancashire Constabulary refuses to have anything to do with it. I wrote to Cat Smith MP, but DVLA fobbed her off as well- they don’t say anything specific other than ‘GDPR prevents us saying anything about the case’
The driver has recently had company information painted on the vehicle, so I know the company address in Knott End. I have numerous photos over the years, but still nothing is done.

Bloody kids wandering in the road when hard- working people are trying to speed. Woke “lollypop people” are even encouraging them!

Children are all very well but tell me – who pays for those roads, and crossings? And what about the schools? Kids have got to learn respect – spoiling them is unsustainable (continues to spout the doom-laden eugenic gospel of Musk et al… I guess he could just have a few more to replace any “failures”)

    A school bus driver convicted

A school bus driver convicted of watching pornography on his phone while picking up and dropping off pupils has been sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work.

Robe was handed two years of supervision, 200 hours of community service to be completed within 12 months and placed on the sex offenders register for two years.

No driving ban – He did not intend to become a bus driver again, although he was considering a new career path as a lorry driver.

It’s not quite as simple as
It’s not quite as simple as that, sadly. Time trials have to be risk assessed and are also subject to CTT guidelines.
It would be very difficult to get a RA approved within a 20 mph speed limit. Cyclists are reminded that they are competing on open roads and must obey the highway code, when they enter and sign on.
But hopefully we will arrive at a solution that is acceptable to all.

The  good news is that the letter of the speed limit law doesn’t apply to cyclists.  I get it though, drivers have a real thing about being “overtaken by cyclists” – but given all that everyone has to suck up from drivers every day, I do wonder why kowtow to this sentiment.
