A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

It looks like the thread will have to be renamed to Pedestrians and Their Problems as drivers no longer exist.
Councillor Kevin Lake, who represents Kenn Valley on Teignbridge District Council, says this has been a longstanding issue. “It’s not all motorists’ fault but a good percentage of them are so fixated with looking left and right that they forget that it’s a cycle path as well,” he said.
“The garage has always been there. The problem has occurred since they incorporated the cycle path along with the footpath. The path crosses the designated entrance and exit.
“Because it’s such a fast piece of road, cars have got to come out onto the edge of the road to get a good view of the traffic left and right. Probably quite a few accidents have happened previously and probably a considerable number of near misses.”
So the footpath has always been there too? Doesn’t Cllr Lake think its a problem that motorists are apparently pulling out of the garage forecourt and not checking whether anyone is on the footpath – eg. the hypothetical person with pushchair – or does he just presume that pedestrians will automatically give way and cede priority to their motorised Betters?

The problem is cars: too many
The problem is cars: too many, drivers too fast and failing to do the basics – it always is.
“The garage has always been there. It’s not always the driver’s fault. It’s a fast road, it’s a notorious road. There need to be better road markings.”

DRIVER who sped at 90mph when he was undertaking another car on the A12 behaved “like a petulant child” in his trial, a judge said. The defendant, who works in security for the NHS, was self-represented and argued it was “against the laws of physics” that police could have recorded him travelling at 90mph.
Polkinghorne, who had parked his car in a nearby car park, told the judge he would lose his job if he was banned from driving.
The judge replied: “You not being on the roads for the next three months is better than you being out there driving.”

I actually rode along there last week and was struck thinking how will banning pavement parking ever work in roads like this, when there were just so many cars.

The news from Exeter traders
The news from Exeter traders is to good today: Justine must furious with all the drivers not carrying anything causing all this traffic:
Despite living less than half a mile away from her shop Hyde and Seek on Paul Street, Justine Hyde drove to work last week when she had to drop off some chairs. But instead of the two-minute journey she would normally expect, she found herself sitting in traffic for an hour.
