Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes…

I just don’t remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it’s irresponsible.

‘A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

“It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment.” ‘

No mention of a driver, no mention of police investogation…

    (edited)

    It’s been updated.  Now says

Police said they received a call at about 21:20 on Wednesday to reports of a car being stolen on Angerton Gardens in Fenham, Newcastle.

The car, a blue BMW, had been driven off before officers arrived.

At about 21:35, the BMW was seen travelling on the A1231 eastbound in Sunderland, and police began to pursue it.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle, and another man, also aged 21, was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

and I withdraw my original assertion, m’lud.

Yup: when I read it and

Yup: when I read it and posted about it, there was no mention.  Now, it says it was being chased by police and the two people in it have been arrested.

Certainly – sometimes extras are plain excess.  Or the price of entry to a scene should be the diplomatic flair of Ogmios, or an asbestos suit and the ability to deliver fire suppressant at high flow rates, or expert trauma care skills.  As Billy Connolly pointed out

I think what bothered me here (and in the dashcam one identified by Hirsute, was it?) is that people didn’t even seem to be that curious.  As you note – perhaps we’re all partly living somewhere else now?

This is turning out to be the UK’s version of the ‘Miracle on the Hudson’ 🙄…

Hopefully this will kick the government into action. Many of the school buses I see locally look very old and clapped out. Clouds of black smoke and choking fumes are not really what you want near schools. It also helps if the wheels don’t fall off (yes, that was plural)…

Aother video with people seeing something extraordinary happening, staring at it for a bit, then driving on / getting back on their phones.  Apparently not out of fear of what they might find there, just unconcerned…

Am I getting fuddy?  Will I soon be saying “back in my day everyone would have dropped what they were doing and rushed to the scene…” (and would my memory have betrayed me)?

Isn’t the correct procedure to film it for a few seconds, put it on your fave SoMe and say something mawkish along the lines of “hope everyone is OK”? Or are we past that now?

Maybe where you’re getting “fuddy” is that a lot of people don’t apply the loco parentis test in their lives “here’s a situation: what is the best way I can help or be of use?” Walking on by is an acceptable answer some times.

The incident reminded me of another film, but I can’t quite remember the title.

    Capricorn One (1978) –

Capricorn One (1978) – Runaway Car Scene (5/11) | Movieclips

(The context is that sleazy reporter Elliot Gould is on the trail of a huge NASA cover-up (fake Mars landing); they’ve already made his friend who works at Mission Control and suspects something is wrong disappear like he never existed and now they’re having a pretty good try at bumping him off too.)

I find incidents with buses depressing – aren’t they meant to be safe, a bit humdrum?
