Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes…

I just don’t remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it’s irresponsible.

‘A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

“It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment.” ‘

    Indeed … but the councillor

Indeed … but the councillor didn’t say it.

Almost any sufficiently condensed power source has the potential to self-disassemble rapidly – albeit most scooter batteries would be a pretty feeble bomb.  Effective incendiary though

Hmm… might be better on “drivers and their problems”?  OTOH it’s more “drivers and the problems they cause are invisible because (something else which is a lot lower risk)”

BUT … despite the attraction of laying into “the Clowncil” – with a charitable reading, as long as said council / councillors aren’t (elsewhere) completely car-brained (not clear from this story) I think they make some understandable points:

First: these (especially escooters) currently are absolutely ridden on footways – and of course “UK” so we “build cycle infra” by sticking up a cycle sign on a former footway.  And because “silent / quiet” and “not expecting them” there is a non-zero and rising likelihood of collisions with pedestrians.

(I’m also guessing it’s a case of the usual BBC / popular culture lack of distinction between electric motorbikes and legal EAPCs (treated as unpowered bicycles) – and of course many of the ones we notice e.g. with the food delivery riders are the former rather than the latter).

Second: assuming his line about them weaving around cars was actually showing concern for the riders … well, yes – they’re still vulnerable road users, possibly more so than cyclists.

Of course, the best solution is first to provide mobility paths which are: a) NOT shared with pedestrians and b) adequately separated from the large motor vehicles, continuous across side streets, protected at junctions etc…

    Sadly more deaths.  Joyriding

Sadly more deaths and injuries – and young folks also.  From the report you have to infer that it was the actions of people in the car which may have contributed…

Teenager killed after car crashes into house

    BBC wrote:
A 19-year-old died and two other people were seriously injured after a car crashed into a house.

Hertfordshire Police was called to Cromwell Way, Royston, at about 01:00 BST after reports a that a gold BMW 4 series had come off the A505 and hit a residential property.

The people inside the house were not injured, police added. […]

Police said there were three males in the car and all were seriously injured, before one was pronounced dead at the scene.

    A good general idea:

    BBC wrote:
Ruth Brown, a Liberal Democrat councillor for Hertfordshire County Council who represents Royston East and Ermine, said: “I’ve not been aware of a problem on this stretch of road before, but this is obviously a tragic incident that’s affected many people.

“We don’t know the cause yet and it will be subject of a police investigation, but once this cause is established, we will look at whether any improvements are needed to the highways.”

…but from the pictures (limited view) it seems this one may not have been helped by infra, but perhaps would be one for “graduated driving licences”.  (Sorry if that sounds like “tarring all young people with the same brush”, but the evidence suggests that it’ll save considerably more than one life).
