Easton goes deep with new EC90 Aero 85 Disc wheels

Easton drops new tubeless disc brake carbon fibre wheelset and they look good

Easton is keen to be seen as top contender in the aftermarket wheel market and has today launched the EC90 Aero85 Disc, a new wheelset that combines a tubeless-ready 85mm carbon fibre rim with disc brake hubs.

The new wheels join the small but growing number of very deep section aero wheels designed for the new breed of disc aero road bikes, the likes of the Canyon Aeroad or Venge ViAS.

The wheels use a rim profile that is based on the company’s existing Aero55 Fantom rims but with an increase in depth for those days when you want maximum aero performance.

“When speed is your top priority, control is not far behind. With the EC90 Aero 85 Disc wheelset, we’ve taken the award-winning Aero55 Fantom rim profile and upped its game,” says the company.

The 85mm deep rims have a 28mm external and 19mm internal width, following the trend for wider is better and designed to work with 25mm or wider tyres. The rims are also tubeless-ready so if you want to ditch the inner tubes, you can with this wheelset.

At the centre of the wheels is the company’s stunning looking Vault hubset. It’s an oversized hub shell with straight pull spokes (24 spokes per wheel) and the end caps can be swapped to suit thru-axle or quick release axles.

The freehub is the star of the show. It promises a rapid engagement due to its 60-tooth drive ring built into the hub body and three pawls providing 6-degrees of engagement. Easton also claims the hub is easy to service with no special tools required.

The new wheelset weighs a claimed 1,827g with a matte carbon and ultra gloss finish helping to save weight.
