The Halo Hi Flow Convertor Valves are an interesting solution to the problem that plagues a lot of tubeless users: sealant blockages. They’re also designed to increase air flow into your tubeless tyres to help with seating them quickly and easily. And they work, too, and are worth considering if sealant blockages are an issue for you.

These work by replacing your existing Presta valve core, and they’re easy to install too. All you do is remove the existing valve core and screw this one in its place. Simple as that. It’s the fact that they screw over the top of the valve that allows for that increased air flow.

In use they work the same as usual: you just unscrew the valve and attach the pump head. I tried these out with numerous lever-lock Presta pumps without any problems. They won’t work with pumps that screw on to the valve, but Halo makes an adaptor for other pumps.
I found I was able to inflate an unseated tubeless tyre with these valves using only a floor pump, which backs up Halo’s claims about the improved air flow. The hole for air to go through is sufficiently large too, so you shouldn’t suffer sealant blockages over time.
> How to fit tubeless tyres — everything you need to know
Their £14.99 cost is a lot more than the £3.30 you pay for a set of five regular valve cores, but if they do make life with tubeless tyres that bit easier, they might be a worthwhile purchase. It really depends on your personal struggles.
Muc-Off offers a similar option with its Big Bore Lite tubeless valves, though these are a complete set of valves rather than just convertors. They are £40 though, which is nearly three times the price of the Halo Hi Flows.
Verdict
Effective at increasing air flow and they reduce the chance of sealant blockages

Make and model: Halo Hi Flow Convertor Valves
Size tested: One
Tell us what the product is for and who it’s aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it?
Halo says: ‘Designed to convert your existing tubeless valves to a Hi Flow valve. Simply screw on the convertor to improve airflow by up to 4x, making tubeless installation much easier.
Works with all tubeless valves that have a thread to the valve end, they do not work with Mavic tubeless valves as the thread is not compatible.’
Tell us some more about the technical aspects of the product
300% greater airflow which allows you to fill the tyre with air faster to help seat and seal the tyre without a tubeless booster (works on most tyres and rim combos).
Hi-flow, no-clog internals which lowers the chance of sealant buildup in the valve.
Only works with lever lock Presta pumps, an adaptor can be used for other pump types.
Sealant can be directly injected through the valve centre.
Lower weight.
CNC machined finish.
Compatible with tyre inserts (like Tubolight).
Compatible with push-on CO2 inflators.
Tell us how the product performed overall when used for its designed purpose
The valve convertors did exactly what they said on the box, and allowed a larger flow of air in and out of my tyres, helping to seat tubeless tyres.
Tell us what you particularly liked about the product
There’s no way to gunk up the valve core, and they help to seat tubeless tyres.
Tell us what you particularly disliked about the product
It’s a lot more expensive than replacing valve cores if they get gunked up.
How does the price compare to that of similar products in the market, including ones recently tested on road.cc?
Muc-Off offers a similar option but as a full pair of tubeless valves for £40.
Did you enjoy using the product? Yes
Would you consider buying the product? Quite possibly for a mountain bike
Would you recommend the product to a friend? Possibly – if they have problems with gunked-up valves
Use this box to explain your overall score
Well-made and well-thought-out valve core replacements. They allow greater air flow, and greatly reduce the chances of sealant blockages. Though they are expensive compared to regular valve cores.

It would be interesting to compare the open bore area or throughput with Schwalbe Clik which is a similar physical concept, albeit with a XKCD937[1] +1 standard fix:

I’ve purchased some Clik valve convertor cores as a test, and they seem to work even with gloves – with the obvious issue that noone on the group ride will have a pump to fit! (Simple adaptors are still being scalped on eBay for very silly money.)

Worth noting that you can get the full Halo valves for £22-£25 – much cheaper than Muc Off.
Should be marked down because the screw adapter doesnt come with, and indeed appears to be vapourware… (not visible on the Halo site).
This alone would stop me trying them as my on bike pump / CO2 combo is screw on.
