The Motorex Active Foam works well to get your bike helmet clean and smelling fresh.
Okay, no schoolboy jokes about helmet care, please. This stuff really works. Judging by the picture on the front, it is aimed primarily at motorcyclists, but it works equally well with cycling helmets.
What you do is spray the stuff and it immediately foams up. It looks like hair mousse, if you're the sort of metrosexual individual who knows about such things. You leave it to work its magic for a couple of minutes then wipe it off with a dry cloth. Easy-peasy.
The foam lifts off dirt and grime and it's antibacterial, meaning that if you leave the padding a bit sweaty, you won't come back a few days later to find new life forms breeding on it. That can be a problem if you store your bike kit somewhere damp, like a garage, for example.
Why would you not just take the pads out and sling them in the washing machine? Well, you can do that as well, but you can't clean the helmet straps and the shell itself that way. You can wash those in the sink, of course, but this is a whole lot easier.
I've used the foam on bike shoes too. The manufacturers don't list this as an application but you just can't stop me sometimes when the cleaning bug takes hold. I'm never happy about taking a scrubbing brush to expensive footwear; this does the job well, leaving them looking and smelling a whole lot fresher.
You'll get dozens of uses out of this 200ml can.
Verdict
Spray it on, wipe it off and you've got yourself a clean bike helmet - simple.
