MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martín had his limited edition Pinarello stolen by a thief dressed as his team mechanic.
The incident occurred during the Valencia Grand Prix when Martín’s bike was stored in his motorhome. Spanish police say a 44-year-old man, who has since been arrested, gained access to the racing paddock by dressing in KTM team kit.
In disguise, the suspect subsequently walked through the vehicle compound without attracting attention before breaking into Martín’s motorhome and escaping with the rare bike, a customised Dogma F.

The limited edition bike is reportedly valued at €20,000 (£17,500). Martín is a keen cyclist and an ambassador both for Red Bull and the clothing manufacturer Gobik. Spanish police reportedly apprehended the suspect at a nearby petrol station with the Pinarello still in sight. The man was later arrested in Madrid and found to have a long criminal history, including previous charges for theft.
Nicknamed ‘the Martinator’, 27-year-old Martín started his MotoGP career in 2021 riding for a Ducati satellite team. He won the World Championship in 2024 despite winning only three out of 20 races, but podiuming every race bar four. That prompted a switch of teams to Aprilia Racing but his year, like many a pro cyclist, has been disrupted by crashes and injury. After missing the opening three races due to injury, his first race ended abruptly due to a crash that left him with 11 fractured ribs and a collapsed lung.

It’s not the first time the world of cycling has collided with its motorised equivalent. 3-time Grand Prix winner Aleix Espargaró signed a professional contract earlier this year with Lidl-Trek, making his debut at the Tour of Austria. Espargaró and Martín have been on several training rides together in the past.
And then there’s Valtteri Bottas, the Formula One driver who seemingly can’t get enough of two wheels, competing in gravel events, often alongside his partner – former Gravel World Champion Tiffany Cromwell. He’s even established his own racing event.
