American actor and comedian Andy Samberg is to produce and star in an HBO mockumentary set in the world of professional cycling. Tour de Pharmacy is described by the Hollywood Reporter as “a thinly-veiled parody of Lance Armstrong’s tainted time on the bike.”
Samberg, a former Saturday Night Live cast member who currently stars as Jake Peralta in police sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, has previously spoofed tennis in a show entitled 7 Days in Hell (here’s the trailer).
That programme also starred Game of Thrones’ Kit Harrington as Samberg’s rival and there are a few familiar names lined up for Tour de Pharmacy too. A tad unexpectedly, they include Dolph Lundgren and Mike Tyson. You wouldn’t think those two would be playing professional cyclists, but going by the tone of 7 Days in Hell, it’s entirely likely that they are.
The mockumentary is being written by Murray Miller, who also wrote 7 Days in Hell, and will be directed by Jake Szymanski. There’s no news yet on when it might air.

If it’s as amusing as Brooklyn Nie-Nine then I’m out.

Brooklyn Nine Nine is great. Just not Andy Samberg’s character, though. The best are the psycho/deadpan Rosa and Captain Holt.

To be fair I’ve only watched 1 episode of the TV series. But that was all I could take, I found it as enjoyable as a massive saddle sore… And it was Samberg’s character that made me not watch it again.

Sounds more like an anti cycling mockumentary to me. But as long as they keep their satire focused on the dopers, and don’t fall into the ha-ha-spandex-wankers-who-get-in-the-way default on anglophone TV, then good luck to them.

I just watched the “7 Days in Hell” trailer. I thought they normally put some good bits in trailers to entice you to watch the whole thing.
