I reported a dangerous close pass with video evidence to Kent Police. Result was 3 Points, Fine, Costs, Victim Surcharge.
However the tragedy is that despite National Statue and Guidance the Police Service is accountable to local electors via Police and Crime Commissioner so their response will vary accordingly. Local priorities should not allow for failing to uphold Statute or National Guidance.
Write to your MP if you want change..
Cycling U.K. membership funds relevant advocacy.
Thanks for the info. Is the video of that incident available to view anywhere for comparison?
Worth noting for cyclists in Gloucs that the police will now take note of camera footage....
Seems highly unlikely, given the force's dismal record over your cases to say the least. Lancashire started OpSnapLancs November 21. In 6 months they had given up responding to, or doing anything about, anything. It's still going- A Big Con to rival the one dreamed about in 'The Sting', but this one isn't fictional and is run by Lancashire Constabulary, and probably Gloucestershire and numerous other forces. This is WT16 ATX- first detected by me as a VED evader on 7th June and therefore not reported. I detected the MOT+VED evasion on 4th October and reported, knowing that it would be ignored by LC. This could go on for years.
the main difference I can see is that with the new system they usually won't give feedback
Specifically designed to deceive the gullible. This means they will either do nothing at all or will send the entirely worthless warning letter.
one which may be getting a warning letter which I will send in when it's all sorted
It's difficult to imagine how any case can become 'all sorted' when the police won't tell you what 'punishment' was inflicted
From the web site. The theory :
"Cyclists and close passes
We wish to support individuals choosing a sustainable form of transport such as cycling, and recognise they are one of our more vulnerable road users. We will hold drivers to account on every occasion where we identify that the standard of driving falls below that of a careful and competent driver.
The police will deal with all matters such as careless or dangerous riding if the identity of the rider is known. Vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and motorcyclists are at much greater risk of serious injury and death than those in vehicles. Our priority is to protect those most vulnerable."
The practice :
In fact Gloucestershire have had a system for accepting video evidence for some time now. This looks like the new system they have been working on. I have had a look and the main difference I can see is that with the new system they usually won't give feedback which is the one good thing about the current system as you can see below from my previous reports which have been on NMOTD. All with reasons for no further action.

And finally the first one I reported after putting it on this web site and being encouraged to send it in by the readers (you lot). There was no system at all back then and it took a while.

Things have changed a bit recently though and I have had one NIP (I have sent this for NMOTD but it hasn't appeared yet) and one which may be getting a warning letter which I will send in when it's all sorted.
Let's hope Gloucestershire Constabulary's actions match their words more closely in future.
"We will hold drivers to account on every occasion where we identify that the standard of driving falls below that of a careful and competent driver."
They are going to need to recruit hundreds more staff if this is to be believed, or is "where we identify " the get out clause?
"Hold to account" = "send a warning letter"?
