A couple here that I thought were worth sharing if people hadn't seen them. They're not humorous.
2. A Short History of Traffic Engineering
A couple here that I thought were worth sharing if people hadn't seen them. They're not humorous.
1. Two contrasting styles of development
updated "irrational hatred of cyclists" Venn
This doesn't look right - there should be a lot more overlaps here.
Agreed, also if my visual estimate is correct this suggests only 10% of "professional" drivers have an irrational hate of cyclists which definitely does not accord with my experience.
.
(I'm sure the knowledgeable readers of this website don't need to be told but just in case the odd one doesn't know, the Wright Brothers funded their early experiments in aviation from the profits of their bicycle repair business)
...and some cyclists have been obsessing over "aero" ever since?
Back when bicycles were primarily rich people's toys, so there was significant money to be made in repairing them. First flight was less than 20 years after invention of the safety bicycle.
The other bit of useless information stuck in my head is that the Wright Brothers were responsible for introducing left hand threads on BBs and pedals.
The Wright brothers were also rather forward thinking for the time in supporting women's rights and also rights for black people. They were 'woke' before it was even invented.
I'VE GOT AN IDEA! I'LL LEAVE EARLY TO BEAT THE HOLIDAY TRAFFIC!
Happy Friday
Another zinger from Dumbrunner, although they got the news headline wrong, should be "Runner seriously injured in collision with BMW"
They came out of nowhere
Buying eggs in America
This is quite gentle, and in Dave Walker's style says both "Hah!" and "WTF?", depending on whether you look at it straight on or sideways.
This is from the book "From A to B", and has just been released for use by the Diagram Club. *
(* Dave's support setup that let's us contribute ideas, and use diagrams in presentations, social media etc.)
Dumb runner / love you babe, be safe
Or this story from the same website (it's about running, but holds true for cycling IMO):
https://dumbrunner.com/news-blog/2024/6/4/local-motorist-fuming-at-marat...
https://davewalker.com/that-annoying-noise/
(I like this - I'm currently trying to track down what appears to be a front end crackling sound on my commuter bike…).
Hey, no arrow pointing to the seat post or saddle rails...
True. My "annoying front end creaking" turned out to be the seat post (needed regreasing and then the clamp tightened up).
Weird how much sound echoes around inside a bike frame…![](/sites/all/themes/rcc/images/smilies/39.gif)
And now it's back
Reseated the - er - seatpost, tightened up the saddle clamp (actually replaced the saddle). And it's still bloomin' creaking...
Are you SURE that it's not your knees?
Pretty sure…![](/sites/all/themes/rcc/images/smilies/17.gif)
"Drivers" would be my caption - it was called something like "the nature of life" on my FB feed.
It could easily be captioned "EU breaks up into its constituent countries..."
Humans & climate catastrophe
Viz - not as funny as it used to be.
Does Viz still exist??! You learn something new every day.
