My bike is covered (BoS insurance) on the home insurance. It is listed as a specific item - and is insured when it is locked at away form home/ at work. It is also covered for accidental damage.
However if you damage it while riding it is NOT covered.
So if you fall off (like I did, going too fast) then your not covered. But if you leave it locked outside a café and someone vandalises it your are covered!
As ever – its all in the small print
Do any of these home insurance policies cover accidental damage whilst out on the bike?
I think to do that you'd have to list your bike separately, ie as a 'Specified Item' which will incur extra cost (that's what I do, haven't tried to claim yet though)
The Oxford revolver lock has insurance up to £500 on a bike for a £10 registration fee
M&S were good - though I last had bikes insured in hte UK in 2009. Once bikes were specified in policy coverage available for more than £2000 if needed. Underwritten by HSBC I think but M&S had better conditions & were cheaper.
Hiscox
try 'More Than'. They do a good policy that includes bikes up to £5000 and there isn't any small print like not letting you store them outside (as long as they are locked to an immovable object)>
I found them really good for my pride and joys..
They got a lifetime ban from me when they started their "MoreThan Freeman" adverts, which toe-brained cretins are already calling "genius" despite being the 17th most irritating thing in the history of human "civilisation."
But then I live by the credo "never buy anything you can't afford to lose" so my boycott is unlikely to bother them.
i'm with nationwide, they cover bikes up to £2k and i've found them very good, having had to claim this year...
