Polar has launched its new M450 bike computer and revealed plans for integration with Strava. This connectivity will become available at the end of October.
The M450 offers GPS, altitude and heart rate-based features and includes an integrated visibility LED.

The M450 is compatible with Polar’s Bluetooth Smart accessory sensors including the H7 heart rate monitor, speed and cadence sensors and Keó Power pedals. You can customise the display to show just the information that interests you.
The M450 is equipped with GPS technology and an integrated barometer that’s designed to provide high GPS and altitude accuracy with minimal power consumption. It features a Back-to-Start function that will show you the way home when needed.
Once you have entered details on your training background and current physical condition and completed Polar fitness tests, the computer offers personal guidance that’s designed to optimise your training. Polar’s Smart Coaching features include analysis of your training load and recovery time in the free Polar Flow web service.

Polar Flow provides weekly, monthly and yearly summaries, and allows you to plan future rides. You can also share information with friends in Polar Flow or through syncing with Strava.
Polar M450 will be available in white during the third quarter of the year. Black, yellow and red changeable covers will also be available to buy. The suggested retail price is US$169.95, and US$199.95 with Polar H7 heart rate sensor, although we don’t yet have UK prices.

I like the LED light feature.
I like the LED light feature. Hopefully they will follow this up with maps and then I can ditch the Garmin.

Maps will be released for its big brother, the V650, as a software update later in the year.
Certainly looks like a competitive wee unit, assuming you’ve got a dual ANT+/BLE power meter and/or other sensors.

Display looks nice and sharp but compatibility is currently BLE only unless you have Polar sensors, and even then the power meter support is not all that apparently. Oh and the mount isn’t compatible with the Garmin quarter-turn mounts (if you have your own you want to use).

To give some idea on price, the Polar M400 watch is officially €200, but it quickly settled to an online price as low as £100 in the UK. By the end of the year, you’ll probably be able to buy one of these for about £90.

Being a cynic; the price in the uk will be £169.95, and £199.95…..though still interested 🙂

It seems to be the opposite with Polar gear, it gets quite heavily discounted against whatever the competitor is. Definitely not Apple pricing :&
