The mega road.cc Facebook giveaways just keep on coming, and this time we’ve teamed up with dhb to offer one lucky so-and-so a whole bundle of winter kit worth a total of £310!
Review: dhb Aeron Lab Raceline bib shorts
30 of the best pieces of winter cycling kit to keep you warm
Up for grabs we have the incredibly versatile Equinox thermal jersey, a lightweight and protective long sleeve option that will be perfect for milder conditions on its own, or as a mid layer in very cold temps. There’s also the Aeron Alpha Direct gilet, some warm yet lightweight and breathable Aeron Speed bib tights and a super comfy Merino base layer. This quality combo will be perfect for getting you through those chilly training rides comfortably while ensuring you stay warm, thanks to dhb’s carefully sourced technical fabrics.
To enter, all you have to do is click ‘like’ in the embedded post below when you’re signed into your Facebook account, or go over to our Facebook page here, find the post and ‘like’ it.
The competition closes on Thursday 1st November at 12 noon, after which we will pick our winners at random and message them through Facebook to arrange delivery. If you are the lucky winner, we’ll also put you in touch with dhb to choose sizes and colours where options are available (there are men’s and women’s versions for all the garments in the prize bundle).
Do keep an eye on your Facebook ‘message request’ folder if you have given the post a like. UK entries only, very best of luck folks!

I trust you don’t have
I trust you don’t have loyalty cards, credit cards and use your browser on a proxy ip in private setting with a tin foil hat on.
They only want your personal details for your own safety, and to flog them on.

I think we’re verging into off-topic territory here, but my supermarket of choice is Aldi. I don’t have to spend ages staring at different offers and trying to do mental arithmetic to figure out if the big box is better value than the buy-one-get-one-half-price small boxes.

1, its a Nice jersey!
2, The US government doesnt really want YOUR data. The cyclist who returns his borrowed books on time isnt on their watch list.
3, So you get an email from Wiggle…trying to sell you the jersey you liked on faceshitebook. Hardly going to ruin your day is it?
No get that book back and step over all the first world problems on the way.
Like that jersey thou
Given that it’s a ‘like’ comp
Given that it’s a ‘like’ comp on FB (and we don’t usually do any other sort) neither us, nor dhb will be harvesting any data – all we’ll see is a long list of the names of the people that have liked the comp and the only way we’ll be able to contact them it to message direct – which is why you need to keep an eye on your other message requests folder. As Myles says though I suppose FB will take note of the fact that you ‘liked’ some dhb stuff and target any future dhb FB ads accordingly. But at least you do actually like dhb stuff.

Yeah, it’s not a lack of trust of yourselves or DHB and I personally have no problem with bike-related ads. The issue is that more nefarious organisations will then get to profile us even if we haven’t agreed to that, but just because a friend of a friend decided to install an app.
Looks like Facebook usage might be dropping amongst the young-uns: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/09/05/facebook-exodus-44-percent-of-americans-age-18-29-have-deleted-app.html

I’m not (honestly!) a tin-foil-hat-wearing-conspiracy-theorist, but I’m not on any social media. I’m registered on a couple of internet fora and a commenter on a few sites. But I’ve been a commenter on this site for several years, and have noticed how more and more of your hosted competitions are just ‘like’ draws on FB.
I presume, Tony, that it makes your “in-house” admin much easier if you’re not actually administrating the competition yourselves? But it does mean that a number of your regular readers are completely unable to even enter the competitions on their favourite cycling-related news site/community.
(I’ve said my piece, so I promise not to make any more disparaging “aaarggh!” noises in future).

Competitions are not gifts to loyal readers. They are a way of promoting the brand involved, in this case DHB and Road.cc’s Facebook presence.
I don’t have an Instagram account, probably too old to see the point, and competions come up in that too from other sites / brands. My choice would be to get an account and enter or recognise that I can’t be part of the competition. I have chosen option 2, but it is my choice.
Continually moaning that you can’t enter a Facebook only competition kind of misses the point.

I get that, I really do. It does kind of make explicit that any of these FB competitions are really just a way of hoovering up marketing contacts for the brands involved, but hey…
(Nevertheless, I wouldn’t moan about it if there were any competitions which weren’t FB only).

Interesting piece, anecdotally at least it feels like much the same is happening over here. Even more so with Twitter – Instagram is the place to be, but of course that’s owned by FB.

But don’t we all want the likes of dhb to be spending their marketing budget directly with the likes of Road.cc (who will of course maintain strict editorial integrity) rather than hoping for some click trail crumbs from the likes of FaceArse?

If you’re using Firefox,
If you’re using Firefox, download the Facebook Container add-on, it will stop FB’s cookies from tracking everything else you do and sending it to the Fake News mills in the US.
(You should also use Google Container, if you’re still using Google rather than DuckDuckGo)

If you’re using or contemplating using DuckDuckGo, you might also take a good look at StartPage (recommended by Edward Snowden). Most users won’t bother because Google will be a little easier for them, so long as it generates the most profits.
P.S. Nice bike, nice cycling gear Matthew.
