Rocky Mountain has sneakily announced the arrival of a new gravel bike called the Solo. With no fanfare and very little information, we’ve gleaned some details on the new adventure steed from the Canadian website.

The new Solo is an alloy framed bike using carbon forks and disc brakes. It’s only compatible with a 1x drivetrain but will run two different wheel sizes – there is room for 700x40c & 650bx2.2″ and uses a 12 x 142mm rear thru axle and 15 x 100mm at the front.

The range offers two models a $2,549 (USD) SRAM Force 1 equipped bike called the Solo 70 and a $1,899 (USD) model using SRAM Apex that will be named the Solo 50. There will be five sizes available ranging from an XS with a top tube length of 520mm up to an XM with a 605mm top tube.

There is a full complement of rack and fender mounts and all routing is internal including that used for a dropper post, speaking of which Rocky Mountain say there is room for a full length dropper post but seeing neither models of bike seem to be sold with one we’re not really sure what defines ‘full-length’, with a straight seat tube of a gravel bike there should be good amount of room in any of these types of bikes.

Geometry looks pretty relaxed but nothing particularly outrageous, for example the medium sized bike has a top tube of 550mm, a head angle of 71 degrees, a head tube length of 160mm and a wheelbase of 1041mm. Its actually pretty similar in numbers to the Sonder Camino AL we reviewed a couple of months ago.

There is no UK pricing yet and no more photos available but Rocky Mountain did release this promo video featuring US cross country pro Sam Schultz and his cute dog Poncho.
