The owner of a bike shop in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, has appealed for thieves to return five electric bicycles that were stolen over Christmas – and has warned them that without their keys or charges, the bikes ae useless.
The bikes were taken from The Bicycle Den, and owner Toby Rainland said in a post to the Calder Valley Flood Support Group on Facebook on Boxing Day that unless they are returned, he risks going out of business due to insurers demanding increased security measures at his expense.
The post was accompanied by CCTV images of the two men who broke into the shop, with some people commenting on the post employing their Photoshop skills to enhance the pictures – besides the one above, more can be seen on the same Facebook thread.
Three of the bikes stolen include the only Gepida Asgard 15” ever in the UK, painted blue, a 17″ version of the same make and model, which is black, and a Volt Metro, coloured orange, of which there are only around 10 in the country.

I am a bit confused, surely even if the bikes are returned the insurance company will want increased security? The bikes being returned and lack of security (now published countrywide) are seperate issues.
I see we’ve got plenty of
I see we’ve got plenty of comments on here with little understanding, empathy or sympathy. When I got into cycling some of the major attractions were that cyclists were by and large understanding, sympathetic and empathetic.
I wonder how many people commenting here know the business involved or know the nature of the business?
I also wonder how many know the business was quite devastated by the floods just a year earlier?
It genuinely makes me sad to see the negative attitudes that have grown over recent years.
So long as the bike shop
So long as the bike shop declared everything properly when they took out the policy then the insurance company will have to pay out.
But given that this has happened, it seems reasonable that they can ask for additional security for them to be able to renew the policy.
If your house gets burgled and you don’t have an alarm, you can bet that renewal at the same amount will only happen if you then fit an alarm.
