A new and very speedy bike is a sensational way to start the year and as we approach spring, so I thought it’d be a good idea to round up some of my favourite ‘cheap’ aero road bikes.
I’ve tried to stick to bikes that are fast, but are also relatively comfortable for longer days. These are all available to buy at the time of writing – we’ve reviewed most of them, although some we haven’t yet. If you want our full rubber-stamped aero bike approvals, do check out our aero bike buyer’s guide.
To address the asterisks and inverted commas around the word ‘cheap’: well, of course, pretty much no bike is cheap these days. We’re talking about thousands of pounds for new bikes, which is a shame, because you used to be able to get a decent amateur-level race bike for under a grand.
That’s impossible now, unless you buy second-hand. Before we get into our brand new suggestions below, it’s important to clarify that if you really want a less expensive aero bike in 2026, then buy used. Your money is going to way further doing this, and a lot of bikes that are getting on for a decade old can still be super fast under a fast rider.
You’ve got to be careful when buying a used bike, but the process of fixing one up is a great way to save loads of money and learn how to fix your bike yourself. That’s not going to be for everyone though, so here are my top picks and bikes on my wishlist for 2026…
Giant Propel Advanced 1

Giant has absolutely slashed the price of its cheapest aero race bikes and I absolutely love it. This Advanced 1 has come down from £4,299, which is a huge reduction. If you’re quick and you’re a medium then you could have a Propel Advanced 1 for £3,251 (or indeed cheaper still) and if you shop around there are similar Giant bargains to be had in other sizes too.
The range actually now starts at two and a half grand, but I would spend the extra grand for the next one up. You’re getting 105 Di2, which is an excellent groupset for amateur racers because it performs brilliantly and is less expensive than Ultegra and Dura-Ace to replace if you break something in a crash. Good words to live by here are ‘race what you can replace’.
I’d change the tyres, but nothing else. A £100 investment will get you the best race tyres out there, and really makes a difference, so it’s worth doing.
Cube Litening Aero C:68X Race

I am taking advantage of a pretty hefty online discount on this one, (down from £5,299 to £4,499) and okay, okay there were a few more of them about when I made the video so if you want it, you’ll have to be pretty quick. Just like this bike. In fact as of now the only discounted Cube Litening C68X Races left are here.
Cube’s value is unrivalled. You’ll find Ultegra Di2, Newmen 60/66 wheels shod with GP5000 S TR tyres and a one piece carbon bar. That really is great for the money in 2026.
Stu has reviewed this for us and while he wasn’t in love with the ride quality, he did say it was a really fast bike and at this price, it’s packing fantastic value too.
Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 7 Di2

A classic brand for value is Canyon and while their prices aren’t as amazingly low these days, they still offer very good value, (at £4,199), and I really like this Aeroad.
I’ve selected the 105 Di2 model, because this is the cheapest way onto the Aeroad platform, but Canyon hasn’t skimped on the spec. Great DT Swiss ARC 1600 wheels are matched with Continental tyres, though the choice of the 26mm Aero 111 front tyre seems a little focused for more general riders.

Winspace T1550 105 Di2

Next I want to highlight bikes from a couple of non-mainstream brands, starting with Winspace and their T1550 at £3,895. I love the look of this, not just because it looks cool, but also because you get a load of custom options, from the paint, to the wheel depth, tyre width, bar dimensions and saddle size.
That is way more choice than you’ll get from one of the big Western brands. I’ve ridden Winspace’s SLC and it’s a superb example of an all-round race bike, so I’d have high hopes for the T1550.
If you’re in the UK, Winspace will do fully custom builds, so the world is really your oyster when it comes to what you want. They also stock all of their parts from UK stockists, so you get full warranty.
Elves Falath Evo

Then there is Elves with the Falath Evo. I’ve ridden their Vanyar climbing bike and it’s a nice ride, but their aero bike looks even cooler. I love the way the stem flows into the top tube and, again, you get load of choice with bar and crank sizes. It’d be great to see more Western brands offering such customisation levels.
It’s a great build for the money – currently on sale at £3,399 a saving of £300 on the usual list price, and it’s also worth mentioning that you get a free custom paintjob with these bikes. That’s a great way to get something that is a bit more personal to you.
Vitus ZX-1 Evo Force

If you want the excellent SRAM Force, this is a great way to get it. Vitus’s ZX-1 was a bike that Stu was very impressed by when he reviewed it for us and while there have been no developments to the frame since its launch in 2021, it would still make for a very fast road bike. It’s a looker too, currently listed on the Vitus site at £4,799.99 which sounds so much better value than £4,800.
Van Rysel RCR Rival

Van Rysel has a more aero RCR-F, but I prefer the standard RCR and I’m liking it even more as it currently Decathlon are selling it for £3,499 which is £401 off the usual list price. It is super fast, lovely to ride and I’d go for the Rival AXS model because you get the excellent power meter included.
Zipp 303s wheels, 28mm Michelin Power Cup tyres and a carbon bar from Deda complete a lovely package.
Merida Reacto 5000

Merida has a new Reacto coming at some point. We know that because we saw it at the Tour last year, so you might want to hold off on buying their existing bike at least until that new one comes out, because you might get some money off.
But I’m including it here because I’ve ridden the Team Edition and for me, it’s one of the nicer aero bikes to ride on long days. If you want decent comfort, maybe consider this, and like a lot of the bikes on this list it’s also a platform that’s stood the test of time evolving over a number of iterations – we’ve reviewed it few times over the years, including back in 2016. It’s the current model I’m interested in here though.
I’d get the Reacto 5000. Yes, it comes with pretty basic alloy wheels, but at an RRP of £3,100 it is £800 cheaper than the next model up (if you’re small, very small or extra large Tredz is currently knocking them out for £2,400), and with that £800 you can get some very good wheels, if you even want carbon wheels at all.
Boardman SLR 9.4 Carbon Ltd

And finally we’ll finish with the runner up in this year’s road.cc Recommends Bike of the Year Awards. Boardman’s SLR 9.4 will cost you £3,100 and comes with a Vision carbon one piece bar and this is another bike that uses the excellent SRAM Rival.
Boardman’s own 50mm carbon wheels look good and help deliver speed, while the comfy ride means long days in the saddle won’t be a problem. If you want one… you might have to wait a bit, as the Great British Cycling Public knows a bargain when it’s staring them in the face so it’s temporarily out of stock.

Are there meant to be links to a store page for each bike? Cos there aren’t any currently.
Presumably it’s “according to Liam” because, without links or, in most cases, prices in the article, nobody has been able to check.
Now with added prices, links to reviews (if they’re recent the headers), and links to where you can buy them too… except for that Cube which seems to be sold out everywhere… tell a lie, I found one – link added to the copy.
The Vitus ZX-1 Evo Force is actually available for £3,499 at Evans, substantially less than the £4,799 listed (although the RRP is £4,499 according to Vitus’s website).
