American bicycle accessories maker Lezyne has issued a voluntary recall of its Pressure Over Drive and Digital Pressure Over Drive floor pumps made from 2016 to 2021 after a report that a pressurised canister “forcefully” ejected from the base. It goes without saying that Lezyne warns this could pose “a serious risk of injury to the user or bystanders”, warning owners to stop using the product and register on its website to claim a free (non-exploding) replacement.

This recall involves two models of Lezyne bicycle floor pumps: the Pressure Over Drive (with analogue gauge) and the Digital Pressure Over Drive (with digital gauge), after the American company received one report of a canister ejecting from its base, resulting in serious injuries to the face.

The affected pumps were manufactured from 2016 to 2021 and can be identified by a bleed port on the front side of the base. If there isn’t a bleed port on the front side of the base, your pump is a newer model and is not affected by this recall.

road.cc reviewed the Digital Pressure Over Drive in 2017 and off.road.cc reviewed the Pressure Over Drive in 2022. Neither reviewer reported issues quite like the one cited in this recall, although both received some criticism over their usability.

According to US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall affects approximately 7,500 units in the United States and an additional 680 units sold in Canada.

Lezyne urges owners of a recalled floor pump to “stop using it immediately and file a claim for a free replacement as soon as possible”. You do not need a receipt to receive the replacement, but you must disable the pump before claiming by cutting, drilling, or grinding a hole in the aluminium canister.

If you do not have the have the proper tools to drill or saw a hole into the canister, Lezyne recommends you visit a local bike shop to assist with the destruction process.
