Video: When riding a bike down an escalator, check there isn't a wall at the bottom

"After a night of drinking, my friend thought it would be a good idea." Wrong...

"After a night of drinking, my friend thought it would be a good idea to go down the escalator with his bicycle," says YouTube user Pr0uditalian, posting the above footage shot at the Pacific City shopping mall in Huntington Beach, California.

As  the video shows, it wasn't so much the ride down the escalator that caused his pal to come to grief - rather that no-one had employed sufficient foresight to work out he'd head straight into a glass wall when he got there.

Not one to try at home ... or indeed at the Trafford Centre, Bluewater, Westfield Stratford City or whatever your local shopping centre happens to be.

How fortunate he had the foresight to wear a helmet, otherwise he would certainly be dead.  Most certainly.  No doubt about it.  Dead.

No, hang on, wait a minute.........

neither a road bike, nor on the road, or racing or commuting.

Shame the young lady rushes ove to see if he's OK, she should have just made a gesture at the tool.

pretty poor planning, should have gone down the up escalator, a cetain releative speed between the bike and the escalaotr is required for balance, but the speed must be low enough to stop at the bottom. to ride down the down escalator he must exceed the speed of the steps.

Very lucky he didn't go through the glass

At least it was security glass: imagine if it was just window glass and he'd gone through...

Might have got away with it if he had brakes!
