Police appeal as handbag stolen from unconscious cyclist in Gloucester

Officers say cash and credit cards were in purse - cause of fall unknown

Police in Gloucester have launched a witness appeal after a cyclist was found unconscious on the city's Bristol Road on Monday evening While the cause of her fall was unclear, her handbag had been stolen from the basket of her bike.

In an appeal on the force's website, Gloucestershire Constabulary said:

At around 9.30pm on Monday 2nd March a woman was found unconscious on Bristol Road at the junction with Stroud Road.  It's unclear at present whether she fell off or was knocked off her bicycle by a vehicle.

While she lay unconscious in the road her blue and white handbag was stolen from the basket on the front of her bike.  In her bag was her purse containing cash, bank cards and a bunch of keys.

The woman was taken to Gloucester Royal Hospital and has since been released.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this woman fall from her bike or the theft of her bag.  Please call 101 quoting incident number 533 of 2nd March 2015.
