Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist died from injuries sustained when she fell from her bike following a collision with a pedestrian in Altrincham.
The incident took place on Moss Lane at 5.15pm on Friday 2 January. The 49-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital but died there yesterday, say police.
PC Neil Pennington of the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies go out to this woman’s family who are being supported by specially trained officers at this tragic time.
“We have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision. If you were in the area on Friday evening and witnessed the incident, please get in touch as soon as possible.”
Anyone who saw the incident or has information regarding it is asked to telephone the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.
The woman is the third cyclist to have died on Great Britain’s roads so far in 2015.
In the early hours of New Year’s Day, Jamie Murray lost his life in a hit and run incident in St Leonards, East Sussex, with four males were subsequently arrested and bailed.
The same morning, James Stephenson was killed on the A3 in Hampshire following a collision involving multiple vehicles.

You're right--that was the other one. The relevance is that people keep complaining about how damaging the platform is, yet they carry on using it.

No mention of how the pedestrian's doing (irrespective of how this tragedy happened). Presumably they didn't die do aren't worth a mention.
The pedestrian suffered no injuries.
Further shock to discover that the victim is someone we know.
Then looking at comments on Altrincham Today to find crass speculation and victim blaming. Also the photo used on the site is not the location of the accident which, for those familiar with Altrincham, was Moss Lane bridge near Tesco. It is most unlikely that the victim was on the pavement as it is busy and narrow at this point and cyclists use the green painted cycle lane on the opposite side of the road where there is no pavement.

My sympathies. As much as we might want others to know where a road etc is of unsafe design or whatever, I do think media coverage often just makes things worse.
Had a shock reading this as it's a road I ride regularly, plus I had words this morning with a pedestrian who walked out in front of me without looking.
Brings home our vulnerability.
I wondered who was in the "wrong" cyclist on pavement or pedestrian on road, I am sure it will come out in due course. Maybe I am being niave but I don't see a 49 year old women blitzing about the place regardless.
Personnally I sent a teenager to hospital, she walking along pavement with earphones in then just stepped sideways into the carriageway, no looking, no warning, just stepped straight off. hit her at about 15mph, she was unconscious and lost a few teeth, I just slide down the wet road and walked away with a trashed front wheel, shifters, but nothing to my body.
Not long ago I was riding up the cycle superhighway in Clapham when a woman stepped out right in front of me. I was slowing down even as she stepped out as I'd spotted the workmen digging a hole in the pavement and the fact that the woman was chatting away into her phone. I'd learned from previous experience.
I'd had a collision with a Danish couple years earlier that made me aware of the risks. They instinctively looked the wrong way before stepping into my path. I braked hard and we all fell down, luckily with nothing worse than bruises to show for it, while they were very apologetic after.
My wife was taken out a couple of years ago on her bike meanwhile by a Polish woman who stepped from in front of a bus, again looking the wrong way. I think the wire basket on my wife's bike probably prevented serious injury to both of them - it was squished out of shape but without that I do wonder if the woman would've had a broken hip or pelvis or if my wife would've had a broken arm, elbow or wrist.
