New statistics showing a 5% fall in cycling from last year should be a “wake-up call for the government”, according to Cycling UK
Cycling UK has urged people to oppose the proposed closure, which would force vulnerable road users to use a busy A-road "hemmed in by walls with fast flowing traffic and heavy goods vehicles" as the "only alternative"
Cycling UK in Scotland welcomed the new guidance, which might see a tougher penalty also be imposed if the death resulted from aggressive driving, such as tailgating
Cycling UK urges Prime Minister not to use lieveable neighbourhood initiatives as a “political football”
“These figures prove the tragic death toll on our roads isn’t inevitable. They show the government could save hundreds of lives by taking more action to reduce road danger,” the charity claims
“Every single one of those killed or seriously injured when cycling each year represents a real tragedy that Stormont has effectively ignored by failing to make the necessary changes.”
Cycling UK welcomed the longer sentences "needed in some fatal driving cases", but has also called for longer driving bans in other cases of careless and dangerous driving to "act as a deterrent and therefore help protect the public"
Lorries up to 18.55 metres in length could be allowed from as soon as the end of the month, raising safety concerns for vulnerable road users
“Driving a car is like having a knife in your hand, it’s a dangerous weapon and if you kill somebody you should get made to pay for it. He just hasn’t, he's walked away free”
This is the second time Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council is facing legal action over its decision to keep the incredibly narrow underpass open to motor vehicles.
