The Troy Lee Designs Skyline Superlyte Trousers are simple yet effective, with a light, breathable build and plenty of pockets. The non-adjustable waistband and slim cut may not be for everyone, however, and as they’re not great in the wet they’re a little lacking in versatility. For warm summer rides they’re great, though.
Troy Lee Designs Skyline Superlyte Trousers – Technical Details
These trousers are aimed at trail duties and milder days when overheating could be an issue. They’re constructed from a Bluesign-approved 4-way stretch material (89% recycled polyester, 11% Spandex) for a pedalling-friendly fit. The fabric’s thin and usefully light, good at wicking sweat and quick drying too.
The waist doesn’t feature any adjustment. It’s elasticated and secured with a zip-up fly and two snap buttons. At the bottom of the legs, bonded hems keep the bulk down.

Storage is well taken care of with two large, deep front pockets, and there’s a zipped-side pocket that’s big enough to take most phones.
These come in five waist sizes (30-38in) and four colours – Mono Carbon, Mono Timber (the ones you see here), Mono Steel Blue and Mono Midnight.
Troy Lee Designs Skyline Superlyte Trousers – Performance
These have a noticeably slim cut, and you need to be happy with that as sizing up for more room is not a great option – there’s no way to cinch the waist in if it’s too loose, as there’s no adjustment. I went a size up from my usual 32in and found myself pulling these up from time to time.

Despite the body-hugging fit, it’s not caused any restriction or discomfort. They sit soft against the skin and the legs are a good length for maintaining coverage when pedalling. Around the knees there’s extra space for slimmer pads, but chunky ones may cause some issues.

They’re not really for super-aggressive riding anyway; the soft material doesn’t offer great protection against trail-side debris even, so watch out for lurking thorns that’ll pull the threads quite easily.
When wet the material tends to cling a little, and it provides no splash protection so these aren’t the best for wet-weather or puddle-filled rides. They do dry quickly, however.
Best MTB pants 2025 – mountain bike trousers for all conditions
Breathability is about as good as it gets, making these an excellent summer option if you’re adverse to shorts. The material does show sweat marks, however, particularly in the lighter colours.
I was initially sceptical of the open-topped front pockets, but they’ve proven excellent.

I wouldn’t trust my keys in them, but a phone and riding snacks slide in deep and stay secure with easy access. The zipped pocket on the rear is great for keys and easily fits a good size phone too.
Troy Lee Designs Skyline Superlyte Trousers – Verdict
At £120 these aren’t cheap, but they’re priced close to the competition and they’re a legitimate summer option thanks to their breathable build. Other options include the Fox Racing Ranger Pants at £100, which our reviewer found were very comfortable with a good fit, or the Specialized Trail Pants at £109. They’re comfortable and hold up surprisingly well in the wet however the tapered leg might be too tight for some.
The TLD Skyline Superlyte trousers are great for warm, dry summer rides, and while they offer no protection in rain they dry rapidly after showers. If the slim cut and unadjustable waistband work for you their soft, breathable and stretchy fabric will keep you very happy.

These are unrestrictive, very breathable and wick well. They’re also thin and comfortable – so long as it’s reasonably warm and dry, anyway. They’re not the most versatile as they’re not much good in the wet, the sizing is critical given the unadjustable waist, and the fabric is a little vulnerable to thorns and snags.
