Quick and simple to use, the Ass Savers Win Wing has become a popular addition to all kinds of bikes in recent years. The MTB version is the latest release, offering more versatile fitment for different rear triangles and greater tyre clearance. However, while it still performs well, the added features have inevitably taken away a little of the simplicity that made the original so appealing.

Ass Savers Win Wing MTB – Technical Details

The Ass Savers Win Wing is a removable rear mudguard that attaches to your bike’s seat stays using straps, which remain permanently fixed to the guard.

Over the years, several versions have been released, each offering more tyre clearance. There’s the standard road version, a gravel model that fits tyres up to 60mm, and now this MTB version, which accommodates tyres up to 3.0″ (76mm). It also features a curved stay design that allows adjustment of both height and angle.

The mudguard blade is made from 50% recycled polypropylene, and there are multiple graphic options available. These can be swapped easily if you fancy a change, and our test sample came in the ROKS design.

Weighing just 114g for the complete setup (frame, straps, and guard), it’s among the lightest mudguard options available.

Ass Savers Win Wing MTB – Performance

Fitting the guard is straightforward, though it might take a couple of rides to perfect the angle. The key is to position it close to the tyre and set the tail either level or slightly angled upwards. Tightening the TPU straps is simple, and they’re impressively strong, allowing you to pull them tight without worrying about snapping them, just as Ass Savers recommends.

The guard features pre-moulded sections that need to be bent to achieve the best shape, with clear guidance included on how to do this.

Ass Savers also includes small frame protection stickers, and I’d recommend using them, as the straps can leave marks on the frame over time.

Tyre clearance is excellent. On the bike I used most often, fitted with 2.4″ tyres, there was still plenty of space, so the claimed 3.0″ capacity seems accurate. Once properly set up, the guard does a great job of keeping spray and dirt off your back.

My only criticism is that the adjustable arms, while offering more fitment flexibility, add both weight and height. This can increase movement over rough ground, even when the straps are tight. The gravel version, which lacks these adjustable arms, sits lower and more snugly. Although Ass Savers lists clearance up to 60mm (2.36″), I’ve long used the gravel version on my mountain bike with 2.4″ XC tyres without issue, though setup is more critical to avoid tyre rub.

Both models perform excellently. If your bike has suspension or geometry that requires extra clearance, the MTB version is the more adaptable choice. However, for standard bikes with tyres up to 2.4″ wide, I’d personally choose the gravel version every time.

One of the standout features of the design is how quickly it can be removed or swapped between bikes. Even if you need to tweak the height or angle, once you’ve noted the ideal position for each bike, it takes less than two minutes to switch over.

Ass Savers Win Wing MTB – Verdict

The Win Wing remains a clever and practical design that makes adding a rear mudguard to any bike quick and effortless. While there are more secure long-term options, such as the Mudhugger Rear the Win Wing stands out as one of the most convenient and versatile solutions available.

The original Win Wing was almost faultless when fitted correctly, and the MTB version builds on that success by improving compatibility across more bikes. In doing so, it adds a touch more complexity and a little more movement, but it still ranks among the best mudguards around – fast to fit, easy to remove, and impressively effective.
