Scott Women’s Trail Storm WP Jacket review

The Scott Women’s Trail Storm WP is a waterproof jacket that’s both rugged and well fitting. It does very well in the ‘stay dry’ stakes too, but it’s a little warm and really best kept for the very wildest weather.

Using Scott’s DRYOsphere three-layer fabric and fully taped seams, the Trail Storm WP jacket manages to be supremely waterproof. The fabric offers a 10,000mm waterproof rating and 12,000mm breathability rating, which tallies with our thoughts – it’s a bit warm and not as breathable as we’d hope for £250.

The Endura Women’s MT500 Waterproof Jacket II still retains the crown as the most breathable jacket we’ve tested (and it’s cheaper at £200).

The material is robust and sturdy and feels quite thick, and this one’s seen the ground a couple of times in crashes and come out unscathed.

The dark design means you can’t see the mud stains after a wash either, and it weathers well. There’s a blue version as well as this black, though it’s fairly dark as well.

There’s a large over-the-helmet hood which winches in tightly when not in use. The front zipper and two hand pockets use water resistant zippers which haven’t let in any water – and I’ve ridden in this jacket in some foul conditions.

The long underarm vents are covered to keep the rain from running in, and have easy to grab zipper toggles.

The fit is pretty slim and fitted, and I found it to be really comfy. Scott says it’s pre-shaped for mountain biking – which you’d hope it was, really… 

There is a good, tall collar and although it isn’t padded or covered, it does its job of keeping the rain and the wind away well.

The torso is long (as is often the case with Scott gear) and the sleeves are a good length too. The elastic cuffs work well, and have a small velcro strap if you really want to cinch them down.

At £250 the Scott Women’s Trail Storm waterproof jacket is a sturdy number for the dankest days, and ideal for keeping warm and dry for downhill or uplift laps – or perhaps for e-biking. It’s not as breathable as its competitors, so if you like to pedal hard and often get sweaty, this isn’t the one for you.
