Ahead of the Coronavirus lockdown we made sure we were stacked with test kit, ready for the forthcoming weeks or perhaps months…… The first five coolest things from this drop of kit come from O’Neal, Giro, Endura and Alpina in the form of helmets, glasses and clothing. Dig in.

O’Neal Trail Finder helmet

The O’Neal Trail Finder helmet is a pretty neat looking helmet for £65. For that money, you get an adjustable peak, a Fidlock magnet buckle and a fully adjustable (in height and width) retention cradle. There’s also a spikey rubber section at the rear to help keep your goggle strap in place. It’s available in two sizes, which err on the side of larger rather than smaller.

O’Neal Pike 2.0 helmet

The O’Neal Pike 2.0 is the more expensive brother of the Trail Finder. It’s more detailed in styling, it gets a larger, more widely adjustable peak and has more premium looking interior padding. It keeps the Fidlock buckle and the same cradle too. The cost of the upgrade? £25, bringing the Pike 2.0 in at £90.

Giro Fixture MIPS helmet

The Fixture is one of Giro’s cheaper trail helmets, this one costs just £70 with a MIPS liner. It is, however, a one-size-fits-all (or doesn’t as the case may be) with the one available size claiming to fit heads in a 54-61cm range.  There is also an XL size available for these with a head size of 61cm+. There is a Roc-Loc cradle with a large range of movement to winch the helmet up but it’s not adjustable for height inside the rear of the helmet. The peak isn’t adjustable either but it is removable.

Endura Singletrack helmet

Last bu not least on the helmet front is the Endura Singletrack lid. This sits between the more urban style Humvee and the Koroyd equipped all-mountain helmet, the MT500, in both price and function. This trail lid features some huge ventilation holes, an adjustable peak and a cradle that be winched in for fit as well as altered in height at the base of the skull.

Endura women’s kit

MT500 jersey

The MT500 jersey gets a re-style with new graphic and design. This version of the long sleeve jersey is lightweight and pretty thin with tapered cuffs and raglan sleeves.

MT500 Spray shorts

Also new is this iteration of the MT500 Spray shorts. The Spray shorts get fully waterproof rear panels with taped seams, whilst there is a DWR coating throughout. The legs are cut to accommodate knee pads too, these look like an ideal spring/autumn short.

Humvee Lite gloves

Lastly from Endura, we have Humvee Lite gloves. These are lightweight summer gloves with a single piece palm. There’s no padding, just silicone print over the knuckle area of the palm for grip. 

The jersey, the shorts and the gloves are all available in both men’s and women’s sizes and in varying colour choices.

Alpina S-Way CM+ glasses

These road/mtb glasses from Alpina are summer sunglasses. They offer 100% UV protection and anti-fog and hydrophobic coating which is designed to stop them steaming up and to repel rain water. At £80, they aren’t cheapest but also not the most expensive glasses we’ve ever tested. We’ll be waiting for some sunny rides to properly test these out.
