I've got a planet X RT-57 and it's an absolutely stonking machine. If the RT58 is anywhere near as good, it too will make most of the "big brand" bikes look massively over-priced.
Oh, and Planet X themselves were a pleasure to deal with - unlike some of their competitors......
Have you tried the sales. Lots of sites selling last years models atcut down prices, sizes maybe the issue, it all depends if your lucky or not.
Try this onehttp://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_...
I guess I'd go for the Planet X then. Go Carbon if it's available over aluminium.
I understand what your saying about commuting but the roads are basically the same roads I would use at the weekend, plus I use the commute as part of my training and keeping fit, so its less commute and more exercise.
Also I cant use my cyclescheme voucher to get a Canyon! Top bikes though!
Both are good bikes. I'm sure that either will reward you well.
Having said that, have you thought of buying a cheap road bike for the commute and buying a better bike for weekend use? The daily commute bike will inevitably take some abuse. I personally would be reluctant to commute on a carbon frame.
Also, have you looked in the Canyon Outlet?
