We’re seeing a steady stream of the latest bikes hitting shops around the country. But did you know you can still pick up a bargain from previous years? We’ve had a search and picked out some bargain road bikes from the 2018 model year.
These are all brand new bikes, and in many cases, they’re near enough identical to the latest bikes, just a few paint job or specification changes. The only issue with buying one of these 2018 bargains is limited size choice, but some retailers still have good availability of different sizes.
So if you don’t mind not having the very latest bike and want to pocket a bargain, read on.
This 2018 Cannondale Synapse is being sold with a whopping 30% discount, so you’re going at £5k bike for a bit of a steal. It’s still a current model and is specced with the excellent SRAM Red eTap wireless groupset. The only snag is it’s only offered from this retailer in 54 and 56cm sizes, which are the two most popular sizes.
Ride a 58cm bike? Good, because this BMC Teammachine is only available in a 58cm at this retailer. But provided it fits, you’re looking at a decent 25% saving off the original price, so this carbon race bike with Shimano Ultegra is a bit of a bargain.
The latest generation Tarmac is one of the best race and all-around bikes you can buy right now, so to be able to get your hands on this Shimano Ultegra equipped model with a huge 35% discount is too good an offer to turn up. Only 54 and 56cm sizes available though.
Pick up this French speed machine with a 30% discount off the original price, provided you fit a 46, 48 or 50cm frame size. If it fits, you’re getting an aero carbon frame and fork with a Shimano Ultegra Di2 groupset and top finishing equipment.
Here’s another pedigree Italian brand, this time Colnago with an aluminium road bike and a hefty 38% discount. It’s got the latest Shimano 105 groupset and Colnago’s own wheels with Continental tyres.
A frame bearing the name of the most famous cycling of them all, this Tiagra-equipped aluminium road bike is offered in a wide choice of sizes and looks a great first or second bike for someone wanting to really embrace cycling this year.
Here’s a chance to get your hands on one of the most radical-looking road bikes, the Look 795 Light, and it’s equipped with an electronic groupset. It’s still a lot of cash but a hefty, nay massive 54% cheaper than the original retail price when it was brand new in 2017. And you can bet it’s still as fast as it looks.
Here’s another Italian stallion to consider, the beautiful Idol from De Rosa. It’s a huge £1,000 cheaper than the list price and you get a Shimano Ultegra groupset with speedy Vision Team 35 Comp wheels. Better yet, there’s a choice of three frame colours and a good spread of sizes still available.
We’re amazed at how many incredible Italian road bikes we’re finding for you today, how about this sleek Cento 10 Air from Wilier? It’s reduced from £6k and the price includes a modern carbon aero frame dressed with a Shimano Dura-Ace mechanical groupset. The only downer is a limited choice of sizes, so act quickly if you want to get your hands on one.
If taming bumps is your priority, then the novel Future Shock in this Specialized Roubaix Elite will provide a smooth ride. The carbon frame and fork provide clearance for wide tyres and the Shimano 105 groupset is complemented by Tektro Spyre disc brakes. This shop only has size 56cm in stock.
Ensuring there’s still life in aluminium yet, the CAAD12 from Cannondale is a hugely impressive bike with raw pace and great handling. The frame is still current and equipped with a carbon fork and a Shimano Tiagra drivetrain with Cannondale’s own Si crankset.
Giant’s Defy is an excellent endurance bike with low weight, good power transfer and most importantly, a smooth and comfortable ride. This model is specced with a Shimano Ultegra mechanical groupset with hydraulic disc brakes and rolls on Giant SLR-1 Disc wheels.
Here’s your chance to own a range-topping S-Works Roubaix that used to cost a cool £8.5k when it was first launched a year ago. It’s equipped with SRAM’s Red eTap wireless groupset and you get lightweight Roval CLX 32 wheels with 26mm wide S-Works Turbo 2Bliss tyres.
If speed is your desire, then this Giant Propel Advanced is the bike for you. It’s being sold with a hefty 33% discount and this retailer has a good range of sizes still available. The frame and fork are made from carbon and it’s built with a Shimano 105 groupset and Giant SLR 1 Aero Disc wheels.
This is Orbea’s latest top-end road race bike, a lightweight carbon frame and fork built around disc brakes with a full Shimano Ultegra mechanical groupset and Fulcrum Racing 500 DB wheels.
