Unreliable eTAP Gear Indication on Garmin Edge 1000

Hi All

I recently took delivery of my new steed equipped with SRAM eTAP.   I was having some issues with the integration with my Edge 1000.  You can read about it at the link below, but in summary.

https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?354713-SRAM-Etap-gear-info-on-E...

The gear indication was woefully unrelaiable.  I could ride for many miles without any gear being shown and when it was shown it would often vanish randomly.

I tried several things but it still wouldn't work, but then I charged my eTAP batteries for the first time and it seems to have solved the issue.

Has anyone else had any experience of this?

Thanks, Bikemonkey

There is slight annoyance with eTap in as much as you can't just nudge your back brake lever across to ensure you're in the big ring, and if you go for a front upshift and you're already in the outer ring you'll change down to the inner ring.  Not a biggie til you're following a wheel closely and you don't want to physically tilt your head down to check which front ring you're in. So a working gear indicator is a safety plus.

Upgrade to Shimano Sora, the gear indicators are integrated into the shifters and have been 100% reliable on the missus' road bike :-P

This is quite high on my list of problems I wish I had...

(although, seriously, hope it gets sorted)
