Warmer weather and lighter evenings are just around the corner, but that doesn’t necessarily means swapping between a winter and summer bike like in years gone by… the Fairlight Strael 4.0 is just as stunning to ride whatever the weather, and thanks to our latest blockbusting competition, this award-winning steel frameset could be yours just by filling out an entry form!
If you’re a regular road.cc reader, the Strael 4.0 will need no introduction. It scooped our road.cc Recommends All-Road Bike of the Year and overall Road Bike of the Year awards, and got a hallowed 10/10 score in its original review. Stu Kerton, one of the most experienced bike reviewers on the planet, calls it “the closest bike to perfection I’ve ever ridden”… if that’s not high praise, we don’t know what is!
Here’s what we said in our summary of this handbuilt steel all-rounder when it scooped our 2025/26 Road Bike of the Year award:

The prize
Up for grabs is the very frameset that achieved top marks and cleaned up in the 2025/26 road.cc Recommends Awards. The lucky winner will get to choose a Strael 4.0 frameset in any size, and any colour. Your colour options are Stealth, Ochre, or Pearlescent Blue.
As well as the frameset (worth £1,499) Fairlight are also chucking in an upgraded headset and seat clamp from Hope. Additionally, you can upgrade to a very snazzy Chris King headset for an extra fee if you want to go really premium and colour-matching.
Everything else… well, it’s completely up to you! You could simply upgrade the frame of your existing bike, or wait a while to build your dream bike down the line. The Strael 4.0 is one of the most versatile road bike frames out there, so the possibilities are huge.
