Muc-Off Wet Lube

Muc Off’s new ‘wet lube’ is designed for the British weather, especially at this time of year. I have been using it on two of my bikes for around a month in weather that has been changable from dry and sunny to torrential rain and cold winds. The drivetrain has performed admirably, quietly and without fuss. This lube does its job well and is relatively cheap at around £7 a bottle.

MucOff say it is an ultra durable lube that offers long distance protection and that it excels in wet and muddy conditions. They add that it repels water and inhibits corrosion. The fluid itself is fairly thick and is a darker blue than previous muc off wet lubes that I have used. It goes on easily and can be reasonably well targeted by the syringle like nozzle. Because it’s a drip applicator it’ll last for quite a while too. As with most lubes you need to remove the excess so that the chain and running gear isn’t likely to get gunked up.

As a bonus the lube is biodegradable so you don’t have to feel guilty using it. Combined with a biodegradable degreaser such as the Green Oil we’ve recently tested you can sleep easy that while using a green-ish mode of transport, your running costs leave a small footprint too.

Verdict

It worked well for me, I have used a predecessor before but the water repellency and general smoothness of the gearing when using this product was more impressive for the new formulation. Using this stuff is not a fail safe but it does add a bit of protection to your winter bike and for the money, it is well worth it.
