This may well be our lowest scoring day of the season.

    I’d agree with that. Daniel

I’d agree with that. Daniel going without Roglic in purist, in favour of Kuss, is a good example… semms like a bad idea today but he may well be laughing at us all by next week. We have no idea of anybody’s form over theses full three weeks.

The Vuelta is much harder to

The Vuelta is much harder to play tha the TdF in my opinion. In the Tour, all the riders are are at their peak but in the Vuelta you get all sorts of condition from under raced to over cooked and it is only on days like today that you find that out! I went with Higuita & Alaphillippe like a lot of people but added an underwhelming Herrada to really drag me down.

Yes, I went Higuita.  At the expense of Pedersen.  Woops.

I am not sure Ayuso is in top form.

    Question mark gone.  Ayuso

Question mark gone.  Ayuso finished well down the field.  Anyone who thought he might be a top puncheur type already was way off the mark, it seems.

I was expecting Higuita to challenge for the win today.

I’ve just seen Ayuso at 55-1

I’ve just seen Ayuso at 55-1 for the win today!

On a similar finish, in his last race, Ayuso beat Kelderman, Valverde, Hindley, Herrada and Konrad.  OK, he didn’t beat Alaphilippe or Roglic, but still…

Am I right in saying Remco is

Am I right in saying Remco is 5th in the white jersey comp?
if so he’s missing 1 point for today’s  stage scores ?

Its hard to know at this

Its hard to know at this stage. I thought the same thing at the Giro – overpaid for VDP while you picked smarter with Girmay & some others – but in the end it worked out as more of my guys stayed in the race for longer. I’m still kicking myself for leaving Thomas out of my Tour team, however (age bias).

I think i’ve f up to be honest. Your team looks much stronger than mine. I got a bit transfixed on getting Hayter but i think Alaphilippe may better him by a distance, which was my other path, (i’m pretty sure i had your exact team at one point).. my main f up was not realising so many intermdiates are beyond the spinters of any kind.

I don’t think Evenepoel has a hope in hell of winning.. but he’ll still be going for stages even when the GC is gone (i hope)..and the young riders jersey….

I can vaguely remember a combined jersey as well, probably in the eighties, which somehow worked out the best rider in the general, points and mountain categories. I think I can remember Hinault wearing it but it clearly didn’t stand the test of time.

There used to be a red jersey

There used to be a red jersey in the TDF for intermediate sprints..Kelly won it three times…something i’d gladly see return.

As well as adding an extra competirion it’s added value would be in the positioning of those sprints on the stages. Its’ a shame it was used at a time when cycling “enjoyed” plenty of very long stages with a sprint at the end… it would be interesting to see how it would be used now.
