Yeah…. finally a GT.
Should be interesting. Not the strongest line up we’ll ever see but that might be a great chance for the under card….

The offical website has the
The offical website has the positions 1-5 for each sprint for the intermediate sprint competition, which has no jersey and is no way affiliated with the points jersey. This is why it’s complicated every year.
PCS and First Cycling live stats list the 1-8 positions for the 1st sprint and then who picked up the bonuses at the 2nd so that’s what I’m going off.

It’s a mess because they’ve tried to combine an IS competition with the bonus seconds for IS2. Overthinking it comes to mind.
I actually used to like the old intermediate competition in the TDF with the accompanying red jersey. It would be interesting to see what effect it would have in modern racing…. especially on a stage like stage 3…

Your interpretation is right,
Your interpretation is right, I think. That is exactly what procyclingstats and similar are displaying for results.
It wouldn’t surprise me if there is another competition or something though. Apparently there is a separate intermediate sprint comp that isn’t the Ciclameno Jersey. Perhaps those points are for that?

Does anyone know a link to the official intermediate sprint rules? The official website obviously has it wrong, quoting 5 riders scoring 10 down to 1 for both sprints, but then shows the points jersey classification with Tagliani at 24 points (two 1st IS wins), etc. My interpretation is that IS1 offers the first 8 riders 12, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points and IS2 time bonuses of 3, 2, 1 seconds; this is shown in pcs live stats, (see stage 1).
The SBS (AUS) commentators obviously also don’t know, cos they were rabbiting on as to why no sprinters in the peloton were contesting IS2 (stage 3), when the breakaway 3 riders had alreay passed through.

Kink in the road and a slight
Kink in the road and a slight down hill sprint is all a bit Abdoujaparov. The long sprint, as you say, thinned it all out though.
Definitely overhead shot for me.

I meant let them do the commentary for the sprint finish, btw

Couldn’t agree more. They always show the replay of a helicopter shot, so why not show that in the first place (trees etc notwithstanding). They might as well let Blythe and McEwan do the commentary as well. The other commentators are best as filler during the stage…

Frustrating when that happens
Frustrating when that happens. On the plus side it doesn’t matter as much on a GT, you just get better teams on other days.

Could have been messy if Cav
Could have been messy if Cav hadn’t decided to sprint from miles out. It strung everyone out through the kink in the road but made for a never ending sprint. I still find it odd that a head on camera shot is the norm in sprint finishes when it gives no real clarity on who has won – you end up relying on raised arms which can be unreliable. I would much prefer an overhead view for the finish as you get a much better sense of what is actually happening. Very happy for Cav though.

I highly doubt he’ll be on the podium after tomorrow… let alone the end of the race.

I wend for Gaviria and Demare
I wend for Gaviria and Demare in Purist, on the assumption that Cav would not be going for the points Jersey and unlikely to finish the race. Cav went for the points on stage 1 so….
Then again, my Purist campaign is over already.
Did anyone else see Contador’s comments on MVDP? He thinks he might be able to stay on the podium until the end of the race! Surely Bertie can’t be right?

Alpacin originally had
Alpacin originally had Merlier as their sprinter until he pulled out through injury. Marecczko looks like a big downgrade on paper so it does open the door fo MvDP sprinting. I still think they will play it by the book & MVdP will be 2nd or 3rd man in line just looking to do a decent lead out and stay in pink.
