A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Moreton Against Overdevelopment: Over 100 residents at event

The River Evenlode is polluted, the sewage works is out of date, Thames Water says it cannot support any more housing until the treatment works are upgraded; toxic emissions from the static traffic are harmful to asthmatics; there is no NHS dentist in the town or in nearby Chipping Norton; the doctors’ surgeries are averaging a three week delay for appointments and five days for prescriptions.

So the prize is to stop the proposed development, but even so it’s funny with drivers how easily they forget/ conveniently remember the air pollution the make all the flipping time.  What about the asthmatics?

Naturally the water company are getting their pitch in early for funding for the sewage treatment from developer contributions. The other issues if valid can be addressed comparatively simply by upscaling the provision – e.g. more teachers, dentists, pharmacists and GPs, but one more lane, even if built, won’t fix it.
Has mass car ownership plateaued now?

standard stuff for bullies to turn victim, and in this case even convince the authorities of this. Will someone please think of the shaken-up drivers.

    Weavers Wharf shopper hit by

Weavers Wharf shopper hit by fine on Kidderminster car park (Paywall)

Managed to pay twice and enter his registration number wrong both times.

He added: “I will never park there again. I’m lucky that I am able to walk and have good mobility so I can park elsewhere, but I feel for those who are not as mobile and have no choice but to use the car park.”

What trumps the above “I’ll never go back” and attempted “what about the disabled?” is that he replied to the text that confirmed payment/ the wrong registration.

Euro Car Parks offered at one point to reduce the £100 fine to £20, but it’s still not enough for Neil here.

As with that stretch of road

As with that stretch of road in Leicestershire and the barrack-room stuff linked below, there isnt a problem out there that can’t be solved with MORE SIGNS, bigger signs, light-up signs, flashing signs, and even bigger signs.

With the added bonus that you won’t be held up by groups of (very fit, following breeze, slight downhill) cyclists either because you’ll be going at the same speed. Win-win!

    Further to this week’s

Further to this week’s ‘Motorist urges “anti-car people” to “have a bit of consideration for drivers”’feature, I give you (paywalled, but I think they comp you a few stories if you’re not too frequent a flyer)

Motoring campaigner (Association of Bad Drivers) criticises plans for 20mph limits on all new residential roads in Canterbury district

But Mr Hudson – who relies on his car to get around and has never been involved in an accident – believes the slower limits can often be more dangerous. “You need a bit of speed just to keep your concentration up. 20mph is just too slow – the mind starts to wander at that kind of speed,” said the 78-year-old.

Journey times in Wales are getting longer because of 20mph speed limit

But overall speeds are down, according to the latest data from GoSafe

Although it is considered too early to meaningfully assess trends in pedestrian and cyclist casualties, there has been a decrease in overall road casualties, which fell by 11.8% in the four quarters since the law came in

Chaos as six-week closure of A258 London Road in Deal sparks gridlock

“I understand the works need to be done, and I’m glad they’re doing them outside of term time because it would be even worse otherwise.”

Amityville mayor Cllr Mike Eddy said there was “frustration” over the timing of the works, and feared a massive impact on visitor numbers to events like carnival week, which is currently underway.

Clare Carpenter “It’s been an absolute nightmare. I work in Sandwich and have to plan when I leave because our road is just being used as a rat run and is gridlocked from 6am. It’s been taking more than double the time to get to work.”

    https://www.kentonline.co.uk/deal/news/i-m-trapped-on-my-own-drive-chaos-as-major-road-closure-s-327881/

Interestingly, Clare hasn’t currently got the road works between her and her work, her issue is indeed about the rat running.
