A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

* Bans are “cruel and unusual” punishments and would “ruin lives” (despite occasional evidence to the contrary like here).
* Driver’s burden – I only drive for others.
* Unfair impact on innocent children etc. – they shouldn’t be punished, not their fault! (Followed to the logical conclusion almost none of our normal punishments could be applied under this principle).
* Impact on animals – won’t you think of the horses / sick cats and dogs / ferrets…

A pushed-back wing mirror –
A pushed-back wing mirror – what cars do to people: Irate motorist from Strood who was clipped by another car followed the other driver around Wainscott and got her daughter to film it
“She admits in interview she confronted the man and then got back in her vehicle to follow him, not wearing her seatbelt.”
However, the court was also told that Keelan, who had no relevant previous convictions, thought the other driver was also responsible for stealing a car from her on a previous occasion.
She claimed she was angry, not only because he’d hit her wing mirror and caught her daughter’s hair, but because she had reported the earlier theft to police and nothing had happened, and that was why she had followed him.
Magistrates heard that despite being given an interim ban when she pleaded guilty, being disqualified from driving would have a massive impact on Keelan as she often ferried family members to hospital appointments. Her daughter would also have to sell her horse as she would no longer be able to take her to look after it.

Outrage as new parking
Outrage as new parking charges kick in at Exeter beauty spot
It’s always been free but from Friday visitors will be charged
This article has a figure (£12k) maintenance costs (including the dog poo bins, 99% of dogs will have arrived by car at a guess).
The decision has not gone down well with regular visitors, many saying they will simply stop visiting.
She added: “I’ve always loved it and have been coming here for years but it’s not a countryside feel anymore. It’s more a park feeling and less a sense of being in the countryside or a natural environment.

Former teacher from St Anselm’s in Canterbury caught drink-driving in Broadstairs while ‘fearing for his life’ avoids ban from profession
I don’t think he’ll be teaching in the UK for some time, though. What a weird story.

Don’t get me started on all the foreigners from the continent bringing pots and ore…”chrisonabike

Couple livid after bus stop put right at the end of their drive
Christopher Harris said he was left in disbelief when he returned home from work last week to find the bus stop right outside his house in Beddau
“I have threatened that if buses continue to block my drive then I will block the bus stop. I’ll have no choice.”

EDIT – was thinking, the driver response to things like this would presumably be “don’t live on a main road/ bus route then”
FURTHER EDIT – a couple of commenters here didn’t disappoint
