A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

    Apart from cycle Vs car
Apart from cycle Vs car issues. Parking income is a significant contributer to PCC coffers.
Bristow has not stated how much funding he will provide to compensate PCC. The likelihood is that council tax will end up as the provider.

I have said this on here
I have said this on here before. Tides may have been important in ancient times for sailing etc, but do we need them now?
Why not ban tides to make beaches and slipways more car friendly? I believe Farage has pledged to end them within a week if elected as PM and Nadine Dorries has said she had full confidence that he will achieve this.

    Audi “swallowed by the sea”

Audi “swallowed by the sea” at Traeth y Greigddu (Black Rock Sands) in North Wales. Criccieth RNLI were called out at 8.30pm. [article]

This is an all too frequent occurrence on that beach. The prominent signs simply aren’t big enough for stupid people.

    Mayor sparks free parking

Mayor sparks free parking debate as locals say ‘there is no such thing as free parking’

Readers have been reacting to the news that the Combined Authority Mayor says a local council is holding up his plan to offer free parking in the city centre

Skipper says: “I am not sure there is more money in it by forcing cars out – except perhaps by the ever increasing sky high car parking fees and the threat of congestion charging. Its more of an ideological mind block among city centrists, coupled with lycra fans gaining positions of control to suit their own ends.

“Nice start Mr Bristow. You did promise in your campaign to end the war on the motorist. We desperately need your help in halting and reversing the attrition of free parking spaces in and around Cambridge. Perhaps you could organise some government courses for the the push bike obsessed powers that be in Cambridge to educate them that the push bike is not a practical method of transport in our rural county.”

Enshittification – initially coined in relation to online stuff, but perhaps has a wider application.

Strange one about the buses, given the £3 cap – although on Morebus around here, even a short hop to the next village is the full £3.

Bike lights have never been better – the main irritation is that every designer seems to have to come up with a new bracket (and it’s often an afterthought) or yet another new charging arrangement.

The airports always interest me – here in microcosm is the world that unchecked capitalism delivers.  Add to that the Ryanair style passenger charges chronicled down the years by the Daily Mash.  He’s quite victim-ey about the parking charge for drop-off and the short window, “but I might crash into someone”.

And having been caught out there, maybe keep a closer eye on the time when you’re parked – there’s something a bit  naff about the repeated “please think of the children”/ “but I was only trying to help someone else” underlying narrative.

I only see Netflix in holiday homes – when I browse through it, there’s nothing I want to watch, so no thanks on that. But then there’s hardly anything on any TV today that I want to watch. I’ve never taken up offers of cloud storage because I figure you’re trapped for life there.

I’d have thought by his time of life, especially if he’s worried about his outgoings, he’d have realised that motorway services, cousins of the airports, are not the place to go shopping. But I guess in my childhood the question of sweets or ice creams at the motorway services never arose.

TBF even racehorses would not be much over that. But I’m not sure the limit applies to them anyway – unless they’ve been fitted with a calibrated steedometer?

I understand that the pony was in fact decapitated and the head was found some way down the road.

A car was wrecked when a free-roaming pony crashed through the windscreen, narrowly missing the driver, and died of “catastrophic” head injuries.

    save “the people’s (free) car

save “the people’s (free) car park”!

Invoking the spirit of the fabled covenant that – many believe – gave locals the inalienable right to park for free in the town, some demanded that the citizens of Wiltshire’s county town be compensated for the loss of the perk.

Are the police now routinely accepting “medical episode’ as an excuse for dangerous driving?

drivers promote a range of reasons for either why no charges should be brought, or if they are and they stick a further set as to why they shouldn’t be banned, etc.

Medical episode and mechanical failure are 1st and 2nd on the list for “ah well just one of those things/ couldn’t be helped”

Needed the toilet, dying relative (including on the phone re the above), the sun was out/ in, aqualplaned, I just didn’t see him, etc.
