They get very uppity in parts
They get very uppity in parts of Norfolk when they’re told they have to pay to park. Even when the charges are a mere fraction of the cost of running the car to park in the first place

    The daftest thing is the
The daftest thing is the driver who caused the crash in the first place, won’t be fined or given points, even though it’s clearly an example of careless driving.

    “Using a phone whilst driving

“Using a phone whilst driving is dangerous – even more so in this scenario where drivers are likely to be further distracted by the collision scene.

“Those drivers we caught will now pay the penalty both financially and with points on their licence – and if anyone was a new driver who has passed in the last two years, then six points means they will lose their licence.”

They should contact Lancashire Constabulary with this shocking news- who would have known that this is an offence?!

    Police are issuing a warning

Police are issuing a warning to motorists not to photograph or film collision scenes whilst driving, following an incident in Haverhill.

Whilst in attendance at the collision, officers caught 18 drivers taking either photographs or videos of the scene. Those motorists can expect to receive a notice in the post requesting driver details, resulting in a £200 fine and six penalty points on their licence.

On the general point – would that be “slowing for 50 or 100 metres is really annoying but I can cope – it’s just like having more speed cameras, you just need to know where to slow a bit before you can put your foot down again…”?

New charges in Herne car park see visitor numbers slump but revenue for Canterbury City Council almost double

Herne and Broomfield Parish Council chairman Carol Davis says the new fees are “ridiculous” and causing huge issues and inconvenience for villagers.

“What the city council doesn’t seem to get is that ours is a community car park and can’t be put in the same bracket as ones in Canterbury, other town centres and on the coast,” she said.

“I am really not surprised the number of people using School Lane has dropped so dramatically because people simply cannot afford it.

“It is having a huge effect on village life and causing great difficulties for so many people.

Same story as with Norfolk, Carol, if you think this is a priority for your area, you have the powers available to you to step in and price it any way you wish:

    And the important bit, from

And the important bit, from that council statement:

    breckland.gov.uk wrote:
The Council, which owns 30 car parks across the district, currently covers the significant maintenance and operating costs through existing budgets, meaning that everyone in the district – regardless of whether they use the facilities – pays for this service.  However, like most councils across the country, Breckland is facing budget pressures which are forcing it to take a fresh look at its services and how they are funded.

Introducing parking tariffs similar to those already charged in most other Norfolk market towns – is one of the key recommendations from an independent report and feasibility study commissioned by the Council to help it consider alternative management options.  The report’s key findings were that the Council’s car parks represented a significant financial cost – around £450k per year – to its budgets without delivering an effective service, suggesting instead that car parking costs should be funded by those who benefit directly from using them.
