A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

East Thanet MP Polly Billington criticises Kent County Council’s objection to new NHS health hub in Broadstairs
Accusing KCC of a “spurious” attempt to block the plans, Ms Billington said: “It beggars belief that KCC is tabling objections to this vital expansion of community health provision on the grounds of traffic congestion and parking when it is the Tory-controlled council that has overseen record cuts to bus services and an abject failure to maintain the quality of local roads.

I thought once you’d flashed
I thought once you’d flashed your plastic, the deed was pretty much done and was irreversible. Interesting what, in this parkco’s case, is set up to generate a penalty notice, rather than just collect the £2 fee. I’m sure this will blow over.

One assumes the parking company’s computer has registered that as a payment declined and automatically issued a fine; it should of course have a failsafe in its system to stop this happening. We had a somewhat similar fine a few years back where it turned out (after much toing and froing and threats of bailiffs etc) that there was a fault in the communication between the ticket machine and the central computer but not between the ANPR cameras and the computer, so it had recognised that our car had entered the car park but not that we had bought a ticket and so issued a fine. Took ages to sort out and not a word of apology, with the offence compounded by that last resort of the incompetent, in-the-wrong company being used, “As a gesture of goodwill we are waiving your fine”.

Couple furious over £100
Couple furious over £100 parking fine despite paying at Harlyn Bay
They said the ‘incompetent’ parking enforcement company screwed it up in the first place
The slight new twist here is that the driver seems to have used a bank card to buy the 2h parking ticket, but there was some kind of delay in the £2 payment going through.
The comments seldom disappoint: my favourite is –
“Time to counter attack. […] Sue for defamation of character. Demand a refund for unused portion of the parking fee.”

And there is no reportedly about its legality in the UK.

I am pleased to learn that the police do sometimes enforce road safety laws.
And I’m very pleased that someone with far more money than sense (or societal ethics) has been caught out.
As you say, I trust that this vehicle will now be crushed.
Remove the motors and sell them, then turn it into a battery backup for a hospital or school or something.

I was hoping one of the trolls would issue the Pavlovian ‘he HAD to pass that close to stay inside the unbroken white line!’

I guess that close pass might count as “using unnecessary physical contact”? I didn’t know about that service, although it very much sounds like you need to be a pupil, not a 3rd party to use it.

…journeys of less than one mile are now taking drivers 30 minutes to complete.
Since the 3x Spider-Man meme is a given here, I thought the best illustration to post was this 8.15 am grab from Google Maps.
Great timesaver you’ve got there, guys.
