A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Parliament wants an investigation into how courier exploitation is causing people’s parcels to go missing:

(But not a single mention of the terrible driving that this is causing and the danger it puts us all in – as long as we get our presents under the tree, that’s what matters, eh?)

If your road safety campaign
If your road safety campaign doesn’t follow this basic rule, you don’t really care about road safety that much.

DVLA has told employees that vouchers previously issued for team Christmas lunches will no longer be available as it looks to ‘ensure responsible use of taxpayers’ money’
Well, they’re certainly not wasting any of it on enforcing VED payment! To save repeating the Lilian Greenwood/ DVLA/ BF64 TGE saga, it’s about halfway down here:

Conservatives remind us there is still a choice of 3 parties implementing the MAGA agenda, not just Reform for the full version and Labour with a lite one (sometimes apparently after bullying and under protest):BBC wrote:Tories to scrap petrol car ban if they win next electionApparently it’s “economic self-harm”. A slight stretch to DVLA and their problems, but I’m pretty sure this is a decent shot at a ‘Christmas is Cancelled’ story.

Feeling your pain, I dId a Google News search. Mainly, people are trapped in their homes because of broken lifts, or changes to property prices. I can’t see anything saying this situation has been resolved:
Inside Midland street where landslip has left residents blocked in for 12 months
Homeowners in Haden Cross Drive are having to ‘battle it out’ for parking spaces after a landslide left them unable to use their driveways since October last year
For the past 12 months, around a dozen properties have been cut off by a massive mound of earth which has fallen onto Haden Cross Drive in Cradley Heath.
Homeowners say they’ve been forced to park 100 metres down the road, while they have to leave their wheelie bins at the bottom of the street and “cart” their shopping all the way back up.

Another resident said it took around 25 minutes to drive the length of just seven cars in the estate
The Joy, The Joy! It’s got ‘prisoners in their own homes’, it even has ‘it’s ridiculous’- doesn’t get much better than this! I only wish you’d added ‘Do Not Read until Christmas Day or your birthday’ or any other day of potential increased happiness. It seems rather wasted on just Saturday night.

Roadworks on the edge of a residential estate in Gloucester are causing mayhem for residents who say they feel like prisoners in their own homes.
Nobody is listening. It’s taking people up to 2 hours to drive 2 miles.

The multiple health problems and the two parked cars in the picture – something doesn’t quite add up here – e.g. are residential spots patrolled that assiduously in an out of the way spot like this?
Let’s see how the comments play out.

What comments? Bodycam captures drug-driver barely able to speak during arrest
Officers received reports of a car being driven erratically and found Jack Brownless, 39, stopped at a nearby crossroads.
Brownless had swerved across the A39 and hit a wall before concerned members of the public called police.

Not much of a deterrent in the Peterborough area, as many drug drivers don’t have licences.
Confiscating their cars might be a better idea. -
