Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes…

I just don’t remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it’s irresponsible.

‘A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

“It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment.” ‘

Purists may doubt this one as

Purists may doubt this one as it’s not 100% clear the truck has made actual contact with a building, but the residents’ wish for a lower speed limit is a bit of a test case for Reform controlled KCC who are at least saying the right things here.  I guess speed limits would otherwise go in the “ideological” bucket, at least until there’s an incident like this.

Car flipped itself and hit a

Car flipped itself and hit a passing pedestrian?

All these reports include the standard statement about police asking for witnesses etc.- except you know that the last thing they want is convincing evidence, such as video. What the police want is their favourite: insufficient evidence, so they can move straight to ‘medical incident’, ‘no charges’ and back to the station

We could maybe put the solar panels on the tops of all the motor vehicles, what with e.g. private cars spending 95%+ of the time static (usually outdoors).

Not bein’ funny but don’t farmers have a lot of things like trees or other plants covering their land – couldn’t they put solar panels on those?

Barbara Howard died in hospital after the Jaguar car struck her property shortly before 5pm on July 17.

West Midlands Police said its officers understood that the car had been in a collision with a Volkswagen van at the junction of Shilton Lane and Lentons Lane.

Ms Howard was inside the house at the time, police said, and specialist officers are now supporting her family.

    Alas more injuries (though no

Alas more injuries (though no immediate deaths, sometime these are truly horrific).  No mention of any driver:

Fifteen hurt after double-decker bus hits bridge

Fifteen people have been injured, one critically, as a double-decker bus had its roof torn off after striking a bridge.

The vehicle crashed at the junction of Barton Road and Trafford Road in Eccles, Salford, at about 15:00 BST, Greater Manchester Police said.

When are they going to ban all these bridges which keep ambushing buses (and their helpless drivers – if there are any)?  I know this one was Manchester but surely Reform or someone should be pushing to rip them out in their own patches?

    BBC wrote:
A bus has previously had its roof ripped off after striking the same bridge in April 2023.

**UPDATE** apparently the bus driver has now been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and has been bailed pending further inquiries; curious as from the initial report they weren’t mentioned…

From the images on BBC bus appears (not a local…) to have been travelling NE – Streetview shows hanging chains and warning signs on both sides of the bridge.  The roads leading to the bridge also seem to have warning signs e.g. here, here, here.

Curiously – compared with images from 2023 on streetview there appears to be fewer warning markings on the hanging chain gantry and the bridge itself (2023, 2025).  Not sure why although perhaps that was taken off by the previous bus strike / other crashes ?

Although of course signs are not a great way of “protecting / warning” at all – especially in busy information-rich urban environments, and where there is a “high mental workload” for drivers.  On which…

…The report suggests that the bus may not have been following the normal / expected route. (For locals – apparently it was the 100 service).

Edit – and once again, if it wasn’t for local journalists, all we’d have would be:

Nearby residents said the incident caused significant issues with traffic throughout the day.

Vincent Diament, who lives on Star Lane, said: “It was all stop and start. You only need a slight obstruction in the area and it all comes to a halt.”

Coral Jackson, who lives nearby, saw the emergency services arrive in the afternoon.

She said: “I heard all the sirens and I saw the aftermath. I think I would want to move if I lived there.

“It was chaos, there were traffic jams galore.”
