Ashley Neal’s 1st ride video (he gets left hooked)

The first bicycle video from the driving instructor I really rate but most of you love to hate! He gets left hooked (but not hit) by a German SUV, who’d have guessed?

To be fair I can see why most people on here don’t think much of him as in another recent video video he says

“You have to look after cyclists because they don’t really read the traffic and read the roads as well as they could do” which is an odd take given that 99% of his ‘driving fails’ are drivers.

On the plus side he then goes on a rant about how mobile use while driving is getting to “ridiculous levels” and “I think it’s about time we had some harsher penelties . . . . as 6 points & £200 doesn’t seem to be working” so I’m sure he’s now going to support Cycling Mikey. OK, I won’t hold my breath.

I very much doubt that this
I very much doubt that this account belongs to Ashley Neal. What checks are made by moderators for accounts purporting to represent the views of a named person?

    Ignored what many posters
Ignored what many posters said about use of the horn.
You’ve hardly any posts here, so it’s hard to believe that you have forgotten the thread.

I don’t know anything about this berk and have no intention of finding out because of the type of person on here praising him.

At least we know Ash won’t

At least we know Ash won’t get the support of someone as he only does his Youtube videos for the clicks and someone really really hates that.

This was never going to be

This was never going to be popular. There’s not much hate to stir up…….Don’t worry I’ll never support Mikey with his attitude.  Keep tuned in for the Cycling fails episodes soon! I hope someone does a piece on my recent Deluded Cyclist video? but I won’t hold my breath.

Strange as when he did some

Strange as when he did some cycling at the start of lockdown and did a video about it, he almost got caught by a car leaving a junction. Of course he decided to state his superior road skills meant he was super safe. I think it was one of the first vids of his I saw.

Nor me although I do like the idea of him increasing his cycling experience. The few sections of his videos that I’ve watched have been boring and I don’t think he’s particularly insightful or knowledgeable.

No, but he breezed across a junction on a cycle lane with heavy traffic running alongside without apparently slowing. He did a shoulder check, but would you assume you could cycle across a junction even if it is your priority given the average motorists’ knowledge, attitiude and use of indicators?

Was he complaining at the lack of horn blasts from every approaching motorist?

    I may watch later.

    Could be an interesting
Could be an interesting series. I also noted his surprise at the noisy exhaust, something which drivers tend to be isolated from. I think that is a factor often forgotten in close pass incidents, the alarm and rush of adrenalin as something big, fast and loud gets far too close.

    I refrained from commenting

I refrained from commenting on YouTube, but I noted riding along the double yellows – too close to the edge, pedal strikes, need to weave round drains, visibility. Doesn’t seem to apply the secondary position.

The left hook would barely register on a typical rider’s Richter scale.

Riding down the footpath, it looked like he passed pedestrians dutifully waiting at the side of the path at some speed, but that could be the optics of the camera. I would have hoped for something around a slow jog at that proximity, given the walkers looked a bit unbalanced.

Still, good to see him getting a perspective.
