Purist Tour de France 2013

Just tried to sit down and pick a Purist team for the TdF and it's hard!

Lots of high value riders, very few very cheap riders and not many bargains to be had, this is going to be a tough race to get right from a fantasy point of view.

My thinking at the minute is Froome plus 1 high value rider (Sagan/Cavendish or maybe Contador/Voeckler) then some mid and low priced riders but there's not much quality lower down, might have to rethink and go for lots of mid-range guys…

OK, I’m new to the Purist
OK, I’m new to the Purist Leagues, so don’t laugh at the choices, (I just don’t have time to transfer each day at the moment).

    Sagan
    Cav
    Dan Martin
    Rogers
    Schleck
    Noval
    Le Mevel
    Mederel
    Fischer

Sagan and Cav for the first couple of weeks, plus some beakaways from the French, Rogers and Martin for the TTT (Garmin), and Rogers ITT. Taking a punt on Schleck as I can see the peleton letting him go for a stage win to bring him out of the doldrums, and he is showing a little better form.

If I’m going to modify this, it’ll only be to bring in Contador, and or Talansky, at the expense of Cav, and anther rider. I can see Bertie beating Froome.

    Thoughts?

It might muck your team up a bit but i’ve gone for Bennati. He is 18.6 credits and in my opinion a better sprinter than Kittel. Just a thought for you to ponder ;)

Thanks Stumps! I’d say Kittel is faster than Bennati, and will have the whole team working for him on 5-6 stages, whereas Bennati will get over the lumps better and is more likely to get to Paris, but does he still have the finishing power? And with his teammates looking after Alberto? Down to personal taste, and Bennati has done naff-all for me every time I’ve picked him, including dropping out of last year’s Giro after about 6 stages when I had him in purist. So my decision is based at least partly on spite… Possibly not the most sensible criteria on which to base my selections… 🙂

kittel’s lead man for the flat stages and degenkolb first choice for the lumpier ones, according to the team. certainly the odds for the first stage suggest it’s kittel going for the win.

I started off with Sagan and Cav in my team – got neither now 😕

Kittel is a surprise he normally bottles it and packs in unless i’m thinking of someone else. Good team though, you should do well.

    Hello all….. The Fat One
Hello all….. The Fat One has returned for the TDF, how the devil are you all, hope you are all well, especially GKam…(i’m sorry I didn’t know, if there is anything I can do for you down here in Fife, just let me know.)

Anyhoo, one purist team for the race. Picked in 3 short bursts and changed 3 times, but at least it has cyclists in it, some young, some fast, some can go up hills, and some I have never even heard of.

    The new team name..
Where did all these cyclists come from?

    listed below.

    Mark Cavendish (OPQ)
    Peter Sagan (CAN)
    Thomas Danielson (GRM)
    Rohan Dennis (GRM)
    Rein Taaramae (COF)
    Christophe Le Mevel (COF)
    José Ivan Gutierrez Palacios (MOV)
    Matteo Bono (LAM)
    Murilo Antonio Fischer (FDJ)

I did have another team with Scleck, Tommy V, Hoogerland in it, but changed it. I think it might have been better,
but hey. Not enough French, breakaway guys. Bottom 1/3 of league. 😀

    Cheers chaps.

Well after having my team set
Well after having my team set in stone i’ve had a rush of blood and taken out Sagan almost redoing the whole team.

I now want to go somewhere where there is no internet until the race starts, i dont think the stress could get any worse. :”(

Picked my final team. I’ll show my cards because, honestly, it’s all in fun. We’ll call this the stars, scrubs and Schleck approach. Feel free to critique:

    Sagan
    Quintana
    Dennis
    Schleck
    Hoogerland
    El Fares

Really hard. I’ll probably change it all again, but at the moment down to a choice between Porte, Dan Martin and Quintana (or anyone cheaper, I guess) for my purist team. Any thoughts?

Dr, they were just 2 examples rather than list the whole lot mate. I get what you mean though about sacrificing one just to get another who MIGHT do something.

People have complained about the values but i think its great, we are really having to think about who to put in to get a balanced team. :D

I think its pretty good (as opposed to great), I just wish the list of sub-5 credit riders was a bit longer. I’ll shut up now before I turn into Enrique.
