Again, I’ll probably live to regret my changes. Had fancied Anton for this one but form suggests otherwise. Perhaps a toss up between Gorka and Ion if going for a Euskatel rider in support of Sanchez.

Does anyone want to give me some tips about how you find guys who might go in the break because its not something that you can lay your hands on stats for very easily?
I normally spend about 3 hours considering all of the above points, and then pick Jens Voight.drheaton

Spanish teams tend to have spanish sponsors. That means that they want to do well in front of their home markets. That’s why the likes of Euskatel, Caja Rural and Movistar might throw guys in the break during the spanish races whereas FDJ, Cofidis, Europcar etc are more active in the french races.
Also Philip is right in that if a team has a rider to protect and a goal such as GC placings or sprint stage wins then they are less likely to use up riders on ‘pointless’ breaks, Sky are a prime example of this. On the flip side if a team has a strong sprinter they don’t need to work so hard for him in the mountains and can allow their climbers to have a bit of fun.

This race lends itself to breakaway points quite well as it has three sprint points and lots of classified climbs within the stages…..for our game purposes you could have a grand tour stage with just 1 HC summit finish that could possibly be the queen stage but only earn sprint bonuses for the break.

Pick them from a hat.
There
Pick them from a hat. There are more obvious people, sometimes if a guy drops loads of time on the first stage then they’re going to attack the next day, sometimes you can get a feeling of who wants a mountain or sprint jersey (Txurruka) fairly early on and pick them up, sometimes it’s just a case of picking a random guy.
Caja Rural as an invitational team were always going to put guys in the breaks and Txurruka, being a Basque formerly on Euskatel, was likely to be their go to guy but unfortunately I dropped him from my team before stage 1 and chose not to draft him in.
