    Hi All,
    anyone here ‘into’ watches?

    It ‘was’ one of my hobbies and this led to me spending any spare cash I had on watches of all sorts of descriptions. As time has gone by my love for them dwindled (as the family grew and more demands came on me) Ah’ then, as now, I spend anything left on bikes and all that goes with them and have not done anything with the watches so sold just about all of them via eBay etc.

    However, March last year I bought a ‘REAL’ watch and swore to myself this will be the last I buy. Well, I wore it continually for a week or so, then on my Daughter’s big day and since then it has been in it’s box, asleep. A bit too ‘expensive’ for my lifestyle I find.

    Advice sought, where would one sell a quality timepeice? I wouldn’t put it on eBay for sure (I’d end up with all sorts of nutters) but are there alternatives? I don’t want to go to a shop either (only for watch verification) but certainly not to sell.

    I had every type of wierdo getting in touch – “is it real?” “would I take a RX8 for it?” “would you consider £200 a month until it’s paid for?” “I will be down tomorrow with the cash” (half asking price though)!

    I feel strange not having a
    I feel strange not having a watch on my wrist and normally wear a G-shock but I have a Daytona for special occasions. Even on the bike I wear a watch, I doubt it increases my times by much.

    I don’t. Don’t wear a watch most of the time off the bike either. Do you think that’s true of most roadies?

    I sold my Speedmaster a couple of years ago via Watchfinder and they got me a good price. In fact I had bought it in Europe in Euro and owned it a few years and pretty much got my money back.

    As far as selling one goes i would try ebay, put a price on it you would be happy with, add 5 – 10% and put that as your reserve (covers your selling costs).

    You would be covered under paypal and obviously payment before delivery.

    Other than that its a reputable auction house but the same rules apply about reserves etc.

    Not that it helps but I have Vostok Red Star Automatic best watch I have ever owned. Russian brand and a bugger to get parts for when it goes wrong , just ended up getting a new leather strap from Germany for it. Rumour has it that the Russians took a complete Breitling factory back with them after World War 2 and the Vostok range was born, I like to think it is true but it is probably complete tosh. Anyway back to the orginal question there a few specialist shops that buy secondhand watches I think there is one in Midhurst in which is local to me but other than that I have no idea. If it was me I would be keeping it and getting rid of the dogs first!

    That’s one nice watch there,
    That’s one nice watch there, i love automatics myself – i’ve a soft spot for Zenith El Primero’s and IWC Portuguese watches. Not so keen on quartz movements, which although they’re more accurate have no romance to them. Always liked Alain Silberstein watches too which had Chronoswiss movements if i remember correctly.
    Would love to get a Zenith El Primero Rainbow Flyback though if i could have any watch, always prefer brands a bit of most peoples radar so Rolex’s, TAG’s, Patek Philippes and the like aren’t for me.

    I thought the tourbillon was the one I saw on the web recently for £600k! I’ll have to find it again…

    I’ve got a great Tag Grand Carrera that my wife gave me for our first wedding anniversary, partly because my disinterest in jewellery means my wedding ring didn’t cost much. In the same position again, I’d be tying myself in knots explaining why something like a Van Nicholas or Cyfac frame is an equivalent long-term investment!

    Just to point out, that is NOT the watch my dad bought me, it was a cheapy £30 watch.

    I just say the Zenith in a mag sometime and it caught my eye and stuck in my mind. I didn’t even know it was worth that…..HOW MUCH indeed, you could get a house for that.
