OK. How many out there would have stopped if a fellow cyclist had a mechanical/puncture/bonk?? On way home from work the other day I punctured :( it was also chucking it down. So there I was, trying to get the tyre off, whip the tube out and then trying to thumb the tyre back on. (Fulcrums and conti's do not combine well with bare hands) anyway through all these antics two cyclists passed me and totally ignored me. It wouldn't have bothered me if they were ninjas but these guys were wearing all the kit. Not sure if I was pissed at their blanking me or at puncturing. I know personally I would stop if I was on two wheel, 4 wheels or my two feet.

Pay it forward – always do – have stopped and helped several cyclists and punctured motorists twice.
last one lady driver insisted i take £20 despite me geniunely not wanting to take it

Broke down in car back end of nowhere winters night, 4 different people stopped within 20 mins to offer help

Just yesterday i punctured
Just yesterday i punctured whilst out on a ride and someone stopped to see if i needed help. :O
This has never happened before, granted i’ve not been cycling long but in my experience so far cyclists by me seem like a grumpy bunch.

i make a point of stopping if im driving or cycling because it can get pretty desperate if your alone and stuck, so what goes around comes around 😀

I was on the Sportive for the TdF in UK in 2007 and the route passed my house in Kent. As I came past I noticed a guy fixing a puncture just opposite my place and my daughters were helping him with my track pump. It transpired that he had split the tyre wall somehow. As I knew I had a spare tyre in the shed I grabbed it for him and we put it on. I then rode with him for the next 20 miles to the feed stop where he caught up with a few of his mates. He went on ahead there – TBH he was way fitter than me! About 3 weeks later a parcel arrived from Amazon. He’d taken the trouble to thank me by sending me the photographic history of the tour.
If we all just take a few seconds to help or at the very least check that someone is alright with what they’re doing, then hopefully the world will be a slightly better place.

I always ask if someone needs
I always ask if someone needs help. Someone stopped for me on a Friday night in the pitch black and freezing temperatures last December to give another light and an extra pair of hands just as mine were seizing up from the cold. I wouldn’t have found the puncture without him having just burst my spare tube. It would have been a long walk in the dark if he hadn’t stopped to help.

Wouldn’t dream of not checking on some one on the side of the road! Patched a tube on Mallorca for a German couple who’s rented MTB’s had no spares on them :O

Yeah I think most of us on here check if someone by the side of the road has everything they need and if they need a hand. Also wave/nod/pull face(if attempting a hill) anyone I pass makes it more friendly out on the roads

I carry a pretty
I carry a pretty comprehensive set of tools since there’s noone to pick me up if I break down- I always try to stop if someone looks like they’re in trouble and I always appreciate it when others do the same for me, even if I have to explain that I was just having a rest…

I’m a bit inconsistent on
I’m a bit inconsistent on this to be honest, usually dependent on how late I am for work / etc. but I have done this and would continue to do so. Have helped with a couple of punctures and donated a tube, plus patched together someone’s broken chain in the last year so try to keep a little stock of good karma available.

One the receiving end, I punctured 2 weeks ago and was passed by 5 cyclists, none of whom checked if there was a problem but have had more offers on previous occasions.

A quick, “are you ok?” takes no time, even if the answer is often “I’m fine”. Small things like this make cycling a more pleasant place, just like the nod or wave as you pass someone.

I always slow and check if
I always slow and check if they need help. At a sportive last year I ended up stopping, fixing the puncture and then nursing the criminally underprepared lad, who was blowing out of his **** on every climb, 30 miles to the feed station.

I suppose its the way I’ve
I suppose its the way I’ve been brought up and the fact that I hate to see another cyclist who could possibly be struggling. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve handed over gels, fixed a puncture etc. Your right about commuters having next to nothing on them thereandback. Even the bare minimum of pump and patches!! Mind you. I must have looked like I knew what I was doing which possibly explains their sailing past!!
